Cardoso,Milton José; Bastos,Edson Alves; Athayde Sobrinho,Cândido; Melo,Francisco de Brito.
ABSTRACT Cowpea beans play an important role in Brazilian farming, mainly in northern and northeastern regions, where it is widely grown among smallholder farmers. In recent years, commercial farmers have expanded its cultivation, mostly to the Midwest. This study aimed at evaluating the planting density of 'BRS Itaim' black-eyed cowpea beans under conventional (CT) and no-tillage (NT), with 75% mulch in the first year. Two experiments (CT and NT) were conducted at Embrapa Meio-Norte in Teresina - PI (Brazil), during the 2014/2015 harvest. Both experiments were carried out in a randomized block design with four replicates, considering the planting densities (PD) 12, 16, 20, 24, and 28 plants m-2. In both systems, grain yields (GY) and the number of pods...

BIOLOGICAL RESPONSEVINESS OF BEANS UNDER DIFFERENT SOIL WATER REGIMES AT PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL 111
Domingues, Rafael; Pereira, André Belmont; Schiebelbein, Luis Miguel; Rosa, Jadir Aparecido; Barbosa, Eduardo Augusto Agnellos; Pires, Luiz Fernando.
Climatic conditions and soil water requirement notably impinge upon agriculture in such a way as to galvanize scientists to come up with advanced research in order to assure a more sustainable production at a given site. Under protected environmental conditions water is the main factor to be controlled aiming at maximization of yield and grade of agricultural products. The productive potential of a crop is extremely conditioned by the local atmospheric conditions along with requirements for water and nutrients in the soil. The aim of the current work was to scrutinize the effect of soil water status on the ecophysiological parameters and yield components of two cultivars of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under tropical climatic conditions. The experiment...

Crop management systems and maize grain yield under narrow row spacing 63
Strieder,Mércio Luiz; Silva,Paulo Regis Ferreira da; Rambo,Lisandro; Sangoi,Luís; Silva,Adriano Alves da; Endrigo,Paulo César; Jandrey,Douglas Batista.
Reduction in row spacing provides a more uniform distribution among plants that can increase grain yield. The benefits of narrow row spacing can depend on the plant architecture and on the kind of crop management system. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of narrow row spacing on the grain yield of maize hybrids growing under different management systems. Six experiments were carried out in Eldorado do Sul, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, during the 2003/04 and 2004/05 growing seasons. Each experiment corresponded to a crop management system. Treatments consisted of two row spacings (0.8 and 0.4 m), two hybrids (Penta and Flash) and two plant densities, which varied with the crop management system and growing season. Besides plant...

Double purpose wheat: correlation analysis of forage yield components 118
Morant,Alicia; Merchán,Héctor; Lutz,Eugenio.
The direct and relative contribution of characters associated with forage production were evaluated in a comparative assay of wheat cultivars to contribute to an ideotype defnition when selecting double purpose material for forage and grain production. Simple correlations for all of the possible combinations among the measured variables were calculated. The correlation partition method, known as path coeffcient, was applied to determine the causes of this association and to measure the relative importance of each factor. Forage production during the vegetative period was measured for each variety at the dates in which the apex reached the double ridge state (3 - 4 in the Nerson scale). The double ridge state was considered the deadline of the vegetative...

ABSTRACT Common bean crop plays an important role in the world, not only in economic aspects but also in social development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the grain yield and the economically optimal water depth which reflects the maximum technical efficiency of the common bean crop. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse, in Alegrete - RS, from February to May 2016. A completely randomized design was used, consisting of five water replacement treatments (25, 50, 75, 100 and 125% crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and four replicates. Based on the obtained results, both water deficit and water excess directly affected the final grain yield of the crop. Maximum grain yield was 3,554.1 kg ha-1, obtained by applying 492.72 mm (100% ETc). On the...

Effect of intercropping wheat with forage legumes on wheat production and ground cover 86
Tomm,Gilberto Omar; Foster,Robert Kerry.
The use of winter legumes in southern Brazil is hindered by the slow growth of these species during establishment exposing soil surface to erosion. Introduction of these species along with spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was studied as a means of increasing ground cover during their initial establishment period, without reducing wheat grain yield. Two experiments were conducted in nearby areas, one in each year. Birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) cultivar Quiñequelli, white clover (T. repens L.), and arrowleaf clover (T. vesiculosum Savi) did not reduce cereal yield in either year. Wheat yield was reduced by intercropped red clover cultivar Kenland and by subclover (T. subterraneum L.) in the first year. No...

Effect of salt stress on physiology and agronomy characterstic of barley cultivars 111
sorkhi, farshad.
In most northwest provinces of Iran such as West Azarbaijan province, soil salinity is a growing problem, particularly in irrigated agricultural areas, and has been found to reduce barley yield, dramatically. To investigate the effect of sodium chloride on two barley (Hordeum vulgare) cultivars, four levels of salinity: 0, 4, 8 and 12 dS/m, were employed as a factorial experiment arranged in a completely randomized design with three replications in a controlled environment of the greenhouse during 2017-2018. The results indicated that increasing salinity from 0 to 12 dS/m, decreased the emergence percentage significantly. Two cultivars of Zarjoo and Valfajr responded differently to salinity, so that Zarjoo showed a significantly higher emergence rate. This...
