Brazil is known for production and worldwide export of coffees. Study of adaptation of new progenies/cultivars of Arabica coffee (C. arabica L.) with resistance to rust in mountainous edaphoclimatic conditions is important for crop renewal and also for new plantations. This study was performed in the mountainous region of the Espírito Santo state, Brazil, with 30 progenies/cultivars of Arabica coffee planted at 2.5 x 0.7 m spacing with four replicates and seven plants/plot. Adoption of Maize Production Technologies in the Coastal Lowlands of Kenya AgEcon

Maize is the major food crop grown in the coastal region of Kenya and constitutes a major component of the diet of the population in the region. However, average yields are far below the potential for the region and low production levels create serious food deficits. Over the years, new technologies have been introduced but adoption has remained low, especially for fertilizer. This paper examined current maize-farming practices and technological and socioeconomic factors that influenced adoption in the Kilifi and Kwale Districts of the Coast Province, that together account for half of maize production in the region. A produtividade do milho, bem como da forragem, quando em consórcio, pode ser influenciada pela adubação nitrogenada, bem como pelo arranjo entre as plantas. Assim, esse trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito da adubação nitrogenada e consorciação do milho com Brachiaria ruziziensis sobre aspectos produtivos dessas culturas, em sistema plantio direto. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com os tratamentos distribuídos em parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. The publication describes outcomes of a study conducted in 2007/08 to analyze the bottlenecks affecting the production and deployment of maize seed in eastern and southern Africa. The objectives of the study were to provide a better understanding of the factors limiting the production and deployment of improved maize seed in Africa, and to contribute to increasing the efficiency of variety release, seed production and seed dissemination for new drought tolerant maize varieties. An assessment of crop water productivity in the Indus and Ganges River Basins: current status and scope for improvement AgEcon

The Indus and Ganges River Basin, being the most populous in the world, is under extreme pressure to sustain food security. Production resources including water are being exploited to various levels from underdevelopment to heavy overexploitation. This report provides a bird’s eye view of the basin and focuses on the nexus between agricultural production and water consumption, making it possible to pinpoint the areas with high/low water productivity and identify the factors behind this, which helps to promote informed decision making in light of environmental sustainability.
