Plate tectonics gave a great stimulus to marine geology and geophysics; in the years since its enunciation there have been major drilling programmes, a new science of global palaeoenvironmental oceunography and much more detailed oceanographic surveYs. The pace shows no sign of slackening-in the next few years the passive continental margins will be muchstudied. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |

It is a question that has received more and more attention in recent years, as an acute awareness of ecological problems has developed in the industrialized portion of the world. The problem has also become more complex as more and more natural resources are subjected to more intensive multiple uses. All 12 Harbour Porpoises so far examined from either the extreme north of the range of the species in the eastern North Pacific Ocean, or from the extreme south of the range in the eastern North Pacific and eastern North Atlantic Oceans, are large animals. |

A key is provided covering only those species of Mortierella of which living cultures are available and which are recognized as specifically distinct. Two subgenera, Micromucor subgen. nov. and Mortierella, and nine sections in the latter are distinguished. The recognized species are listed with some new synonymies and bibliographic documentation. Three species which were invalidly published by Linnemann in 1936 are validated. |

Agriculture is the largest sector in the economy of Sierra Leone, employing approximately 75 percent of the population in 1972 and accounting for over 30 percent of the gross domestic product. But though the national economy has grown at an estimated 4.3 percent rate in the last decade, the agricultural sector is estimated to have grown only 1.6 percent per year. The government of Sierra Leone, recognizing the importance of the agricultural sector and the need to develop policies to encourage its growth, has set a goal of increasing the growth rate of the sector to 4.6 percent per annum. Central to the overall agricultural development plan is the emphasis on increased rice production. Rice is the staple food in Sierra Leone, grown by over 80 percent... |
