Paddy riceused as a major source of carbohydrates in the fighting cocks feed. The fighting cocks has been fed widely and also many species have been developed. Some of them have high millions Baht. Fighting cocks breeders need effective rice. We conducted a survey of the needs and characteristics of local rice varieties that can be used as fighting cocks feed. Beginning with a survey from December 2013 to February 2014 the samples were 53 of Fighting cocks breeders in Mae Hong Son province. In a result, it was found that most of respondents were male. Age range was between 28 - 78 years old. The experience of fighting cocks breeding was 5 - 60 years. They raised 4-80 fighting cocks. Demand for rice was 6,881 kilograms per month. Price of rice was 11 - 17 Baht per kilogram in the market. The most local rice varieties with satisfaction were Ja-ae, Huai Nam Rin, Ja-khumPue, Ja-PaeKui and La-Upe. Seed shapes were small and round, unsharpened end, own less, smooth and hairless that it would not get stuck on the roof of the mouth and esophagus that cause inflammation until the cocks become sick and may die. Moreover palatability and feed intake were at higher levels. However, there is no currently promotion in product for commercial produced. but only buying from an agriculturist by middle men. Therefore, the five varieties of rice for fighting cocks feed should be grow for comparison in agricultural characteristics and yield, and the varieties should be encouraged for farmers to expand. Consequently this will create value-added to the local rice varieties.
ข้าวเปลือกถูกนำมาใช้เป็นแหล่งคาร์โบไฮเดรตที่สำคัญในอาหารไก่ชน ซึ่งมีการเลี้ยงและพัฒนาสายพันธุ์กันอย่างแพร่หลาย บางตัวมีราคาซื้อขายสูงถึงหลายล้านบาท ผู้เลี้ยงไก่ชนจึงต้องการข้าวเปลือก ที่มีคุณลักษณะเหมาะสม สามารถนำมาใช้เป็นอาหารไก่ชนได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ผู้วิจัยจึงดำเนินการสำรวจ ความต้องการและลักษณะของเมล็ดข้าวพันธุ์พื้นเมืองที่สามารถนำมาใช้เป็นอาหารเลี้ยงไก่ชน โดยเริ่มการสำรวจตั้งแต่เดือนธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2556 ไปจนถึงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2557 ซึ่งกลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือเกษตรกรที่มีอาชีพเลี้ยงไก่ชนในจังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน จำนวน 53 ราย พบว่าเกือบทั้งหมดเป็นเพศชาย อายุระหว่าง 28-78 ปี มีประสบการณ์การเลี้ยงไก่ชน 5-60 ปี มีไก่ที่อยู่ในระยะพร้อมชนจำนวน 4-80 ตัว มีความต้องการข้าวเปลือกรวมเดือนละ 6,881 กิโลกรัม ราคาซื้อขายในท้องตลาดกิโลกรัมละ 11-17 บาท ข้าวพันธุ์พื้นเมืองที่มีความพึงพอใจมากที่สุดคือพันธุ์จะแอ๋ ห้วยน้ำริน จะกุมปือ จะแปกุย และ ละอูบ โดยเมล็ด มีลักษณะ รูปร่างกลม ป้อม ปลายไม่แหลม ไม่มีหาง ผิวเรียบไม่มีขน ซึ่งจะช่วยไม่ให้ไปติดค้างตามหลอดอาหาร และเพดานปากบน จนเกิดการอักเสบ ทำให้ไก่ป่วยและอาจตายได้ นอกจากนี้แล้วยังมีความน่ากิน (palatability) และมีค่าการกินได้ (feed intake) ในระดับที่สูง อย่างไรก็ตามในปัจจุบันยังไม่มีการส่งเสริมการผลิตเพื่อจำหน่ายในเชิงการค้า เป็นเพียงการรับซื้อจากเกษตรกรโดยพ่อค้าคนกลางเท่านั้น จึงควรมีการนำข้าวที่ใช้เลี้ยงไก่ชนมาปลูกเปรียบเทียบกับข้าวพันธุ์พื้นเมืองทั้ง 5 พันธุ์ เพื่อศึกษาถึงลักษณะทางการเกษตร การให้ผลผลิต แล้วนำไปส่งเสริมให้เกษตรกรที่สนใจปลูกขยาย ซึ่งจะเป็นการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับข้าวพันธุ์พื้นเมืองอีกทางหนึ่ง
