Приведены данные о пространственной структуре биолюминесцентного поля, полученные методом батифотометрического зондирования. Материал собран в 5-м рейсе НИС «Профессор Водяницкий», проходившем в ноябре 1978 г.—апреле 1979 г. Биолюминесцентный потенциал постепенно уменьшался в юго-западном направлении от продуктивных вод Бенгельской дивергенции (16,0.10-4 мкВт/см2) до олиготрофных (0,1—0,5.10-4 мкВт/см2).
The region under study embraces all types of water mass peculiar to tropical and notal belts of the Atlantic Ocean, therefore bioluminescence characteristics for various regions are different. The subtropical water mass in characterized by a low bioluminescence level (0.1-0.5 · 10-4 µW/cm2). The bioluminescent field is represented by faint flashes, not confined to certain horizons in their main mass. The water mass affected by a cyclonic cycle has a higher average bioluminescent potential (0.5-1.0 · 10-4µW/cm2). The Bengel divergence belt is fixed to possess maximum bioluminescence (16.0 · 10-4µW/cm2). The average bioluminescence level (2.5-5.0 · 10-4µW/cm2) is typical equatorial water mass. The structure of the bioluminescent radiation field is considerably determined by the biological characteristics and hydrological conditions of the water area under study.
