Black sea whiting is known to host four myxosporeans parasitizing on the gall bladder. Of them Leptotheca informis Auerbach, 1910 was only once found in the vicinity of Novorossijsk. Most probably Myxidium incurvatum Thelohan, 1892, attributed to whiting and a small flounder, Platichthys flesus luscus (Pallas) from the Bay of Tendrov, is in fact M. gadi Georgevitsch, 1916. Our data point out that the latter and Ceratomyxa merlangi Zaika, 1966 are found year through in the seawater near Sevastopol; they occur also in the northwestern Black Sea near the western, southern and eastern coasts of the Crimea, in the Kerch Strait and in the coastal sea of the Caucasus where invasion estimates are high. In earlier publications we have described seasonal and interannual dynamics of the occurrence of M. gadi and C. merlangi for whitings in the sea near Sevastopol, the harmful effect of the overabundance of M gadi upon the gall bladder of the fish and the lipid content of the liver of male whiting. At the same time, the dynamics of the prevalence of these myxosporeans depended upon the host’s length, weight, age and sex was discussed in two small articles only that impelled us to specially concentrate on the subject in this paper. Material collected during 1987-1989 and 1998-2002 underlie the first study of the relationship between the infestation of Black sea whiting, Merlangius merlangus euxinus (Nordmann) with two myxosporeans, (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) – Myxidium gadi Georgevitsch, 1916 and Ceratomyxa merlangi Zaika, 1966 and biotic factors (e.g. body length, weight and sex) of the host inhabiting different areas of the Black Sea (coastal seawater of Ukraine, Russia and Georgia).
