The parameter that remarks the change of the climatic season in Ecuador is precipitation, which at the beginning or end is not continuous; this work defines the beginning, duration, and end of the rainy season in five towns of the Ecuadorian coast, located along the central and southern coast. Daily precipitation data obtained from the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Information System of INOCAR is analyzed since 1975 until 2005. The criterion to define the beginning and duration of the rainy season is based on the analysis of pentads. This is and adaptation of the methodology proposed by Alfaro (1998). If at least, are rains during three consecutive pentads, the date is marked as the begin of the rainy season; if there are no registries of rain in 3 consecutive pentads is defined as ending of rainy season, normally expected to be in April. Results show a regularity in the beginning, and, and duration dates being affected from time to time by the variability of El Niño-a. As main conclusion, in Guayaquil since 2000 is found a delay in the beginning of the rainy season, keeping the average in the date of end of the season.
