Información sobre la dirección y la velocidad de las corrientes, fue obtenida en forma directa con un correntómetro ADCP WHS300, en cuatro estaciones distribuídas en el área del Paso ORION y Ensenada de Guayaquil. Las mediciones fueron efectuada durante 57 horas continuas en 3 estaciones a bordo del Buque RO/RO "PATRIARCHI" y durante 8 horas en la cuarta estación a bordo de una embarcación pequeña. Luego del análisis de la información obtenida se observa que el patrón de circulación presenta una estructura muy variada, sobre todo en el sector este del área de estudio por efectos propios de la topografía del fondo. Los máximos flujos fueron obtenidos en la estación 2 en las capas subsuperficiales, con magnitudes de 0.39 m/s, y no exclusivamente influenciadas por el campo de vientos prevaleciente, sino más bien por la influencia de la Corriente Antártica Circumpolar.
The measurement of the currents were obtained directly with a currentmeter ADCP WHS300 in four stations distributed in the area of the ORION Passage and Guayaquil Cove. The measurements were made continuously during 57 hours in three stations on board the ship RO/RO "PATRIARCHI" and during 8 hours in the fourth station on board a small craft. After the analysis of the obtained information it is observed that the circulation pattern presents a very varied structure, particularly in the east sector of observed area due to the characteristics of the topography of the sea bottom. The maximum flows were obtained in the station 2 in the subsurface layers, with maximum values of 0.39 m/s, it does not depend exclusively upon the prevailing wind field, but depends on the influence of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.
