Estimulados pelo interesse de contribuir para ampliar conhecimentos sobre o Programa de Reforma Agrária implementado em Minas Gerais, empreendemos esforços para verificar “como” e “em que medida” essa política pública tem cumprido suas principais funções, quais sejam: garantir justiça social aos povos do campo, através de efetivo apoio e ações que qualifiquem suas cotidianas condições de vida, fortaleçam seu desejo de permanência no espaço rural e os inclua no processo produtivo. Nessa perspectiva, realizamos sete estudos de caso que serviram de base para um estudo comparativo entre as realidades investigadas. A pesquisa envolveu como participantes assentados da reforma agrária residentes nos assentamentos Rio das Pedras, Nova Palma e Zumbi dos Palmares, Correntes, Paco Paco, Dom Orione e Cafundão. Os dados foram coletados através da aplicação de questionários e entrevistas, no período de agosto a outubro de 2007. É possível afirmar, com base nos dados, que, embora os assentados reconheçam o abandono por parte das autoridades governamentais, especialmente no que ser refere a créditos, assistência técnica, às dificuldades inerentes à produção agropecuária, às oscilações dos preços, à comercialização, à agregação de valor ao produto colhido, e à lentidão no atendimento das demandas, o Programa de Reforma Agrária vigente é, sim, uma possibilidade de mudança de vida, sobretudo quando comparam a condição de vida anterior à aquisição do lote. Mesmo com várias carências, dentre elas a falta ou insuficiência de infraestrutura nos assentamentos, a descontinuidade dos programas de assistência técnica, deficiências no atendimento à saúde, etc. o trabalhador rural se diz muito feliz e satisfeito com diversos benefícios que a Reforma Agrária propicia, principalmente no que se refere ao acesso à terra e à habitação.---------------------------------------------Stimulated by the interest of contributing to expand the knowledge on the implemented Program of Agrarian in the Minas Gerais, we undertook efforts to verify "how" and "to which extent" this public policy has fulfilled its main purposes, as: to guarantee social justice to the rural area inhabitants, through an effective support and actions that improve their everyday life conditions, that strengthen their desire of permanence in the rural space, and that incorporate them in the productive process. In this perspective, we carried out seven case studies that worked as a base for a comparative study among the investigated realities. The research involved as participants, settled people from the agrarian reform, that live in the settling areas from Rio das Pedras, Nova Palma, Zumbi dos Palmares, Correntes, Paco Paco, Dom Orione and Cafundão. The data were collected through the application of questionnaires and interviews, from August to October of 2007. It is possible to affirm, based on the data, that, nevertheless the settled people are aware of the abandonment by the governmental authorities, especially in relation to credits, to technical assistance, to the inherent difficulties for the farming production, to the prices instability, to the commercialization, to add value to the harvested product, and to the slowness in the attendance of the demands, the Programa de Reforma Agrária now in exercise is, yes, a possibility of a life change, mainly when they compare it with the previous life conditions, before they got hold of their land parcel. Even though there are some lacks, amongst them, the lack or insufficiency of infrastructure in the settlements, the technical assistance programs’ discontinuity, the deficiencies in health assistance, etc., the agricultural workers consider themselves as rather happy and satisfied with the diverse benefits that the Agrarian Reform makes possible, mainly referring to land and housing access.
