La presencia de los barrenadores de la semilla del aguacate Conotrachelus aguacatae Barber y C. perseae Barber (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) en México, ha provocado restricciones fitosanitarias para la exportación del aguacate, situación que afecta principalmente al estado de Michoacán. Dada la importancia de la plaga, se propuso conocer el patrón de distribución actual de los barrenadores de la semilla del aguacate a través del uso del Sistema de Posicionamiento Global (GPS), se georreferenciaron 195 árboles de aguacate. El muestreo se realizó de julio a noviembre de 2005 y en mayo de 2006 en un total de 70 huertos y 36 traspatios, en una superficie aproximada de 67.58 hectáreas de aguacate Hass y criollo de los municipios de Tacámbaro, Tocumbo, Cotija, Susupuato y Ziracuaretiro, Michoacán. Se muestrearon 1,856 árboles y se partieron 2,104 frutos para buscar larvas y huevecillos; asimismo, los frutos con daños se mantuvieron en laboratorio para registrar la posible emergencia de adultos. Los datos obtenidos se representaron en un mapa digital, con apoyo del programa ArcView GIS 3.1 y cartas geográficas digitales de INEGI 2005. Del total de árboles muestreados sólo 8 resultaron positivos a la presencia del barrenador de la semilla. Se realizó la descripción morfológica de Conotrachelus aguacatae, que permitiera identificarla y diferenciarla de C. perseae, ya que ambas especies se encontraron presentes en el área de estudio._________The presence of the avocado seed borers Conotrachelus aguacatae Barber and C. perseae Barber (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Mexico, it has caused Phytosanitary restrictions for the export of the avocado, affecting mainly the state of Michoacan. Given the importance of this pest, the current distribution pattern the of the avocado seed borers was done through the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS), 195 avocado trees were positioned, Sampling was made from July to November 2005 and in May 2006 in a total of 70 commercial orchards and 36 family orchards, corresponding to an approximately 67,58 hectares of Hass and native avocado varieties in the municipalities of Tacámbaro, Tocumbo, Cotija, Susupuato and Ziracuaretiro, Michoacán. 1.856 trees were sampled and 2.104 fruits were divided to look for larvae and eggs; also, the fruits with damages were kept in laboratory conditions to register the possible adult emergency. The collected data were plotted on a digital map, using the ArcView GIS 3.1 program and INEGI digital maps (2005). Of the total sampled trees only 8 were positive to the presence of the seed borer. Morphological description of Conotrachelus aguacatae was done, to allow identification and differentiation from C. perseae, since both species were present in the study area.
