| This study aimed to investigate the effects of insulin resistance (IR) during the close-up dry period on the metabolic status and performance of dairy cows as well as to determine the effects on body weight (BW) and metabolic status of their calves. An insulin tolerance test (ITT) was conducted by administering 0.05 IU/kg BW of insulin to 34 multiparous Holstein cows at 3 weeks prepartum. | Recent studies suggest that IGF-I is a crucial regulatory factor in follicular growth during early post-partum period. The aim of the present study was to determine in detail the changing profiles of metabolic and reproductive hormones in relation to ovulation of the dominant follicle (DF) of the first follicular wave post-partum in high-producing dairy cows. Plasma concentrations of related hormones in 22 multiparous Holstein cows were measured from 4 weeks pre-partum to 3 weeks post-partum, and the development of DF was observed with colour Doppler ultrasound. | 19歳齢のペルシュロン種繁殖雌馬に血尿が認められた。血尿は止血剤および抗生剤投与によっては改善され なかった。患畜は次第に元気食欲の低下、削痩、貧血を呈し、高度蛋白尿および胸前部冷性浮腫が発現した。 直腸検査により人頭大に腫大した左腎を触知し、腎臓腫瘍を疑った。病理解剖の結果、左腎は27X18Xl0cmに 腫大し、血液に富む巨大な腫瘤形成(13X8X8cm)を認めた。左腎門リンパ節は腫大し、また右腎臓、左右 副腎、肝臓および肺では大小の白色腫瘤を認めた。病理組織学的検査によりこれらの腫瘍はいずれも浸潤性に 増殖する上皮性腫瘍組織であったことから、本症例は腎細胞癌が他の複数の臓器に転移したものと考察した。 |

| The decrease in fertility and conception rates of high-producing dairy cows is one of the major negative impacts for today's producers. The recovery of ovarian activity postpartum is affected by the status of immunity, metabolism and reproduction and plays a critical role in subsequent fertility after parturition in the cow. | 人工授精 (AI) 後の陰唇刺激がホルスタイン種乳用牛の受胎率に及ぼす効果を評価するために, 未経産牛295頭を用い, AI直後に手指による陰唇刺激を15秒間行って対照群と比較した. その結果, 陰唇刺激群の受胎率は対照群よりも高かった (69.2%vs64.7%) が, 有意差はなかった. また, 対照群において7月から8月に受胎率が低下する傾向が認められたが, 陰唇刺激群では認められなかった. 両群の受胎成績のTemperature-Humidity Index (THI) 別の分析では, 対照群において, 暑熱ストレス条件下とされるTHIが72以上の場合の受胎率は, 72以下の場合よりも有意に低かった (P<0.01) が, 陰唇刺激群ではそのような差異は認められなかった. |

| The objective of our study was to compare the characteristics of the corpus luteum (CL) formed after ovulation of the dominant follicle (DF) of the first follicular wave (W1) and those of the CL formed after ovulation of the DF of the second (induced) follicular wave (W2). Non-lactating Holstein cows were used for this study. | The aim of the present study was to investigate the changing profiles of plasma metabolic hormones during the ovarian cycles of beef and dairy cattle. We used 16 non-pregnant, non-lactating Japanese Black beef cattle (6 heifers and 10 cows; parity=2.3 ± 0.8) and 12 multiparous Holstein dairy cows (parity=3.0 ± 0.3). | In peripartum dairy cows, insulin resistance (IR) increases to adjust the direction of energy to lactation after calving. To investigate the effect of prepartum IR on postpartum reproductive performance, the insulin tolerance test (ITT) was applied to 15 cows at 3 weeks (Pre21) and 10 days (Pre10) before the predicted calving date. | The activity of α3-D-mannoside-β-1,2-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase I (GnT I; EC 2.4.1.101), which catalyzes the first step in the conversion of oligomannose to complex or hybrid N-glycans of glycoproteins, was detected in bovine follicular fluid (bFF). The GnT I activity in bFF had a pH optimum of 5.8 and an absolute requirement for either Co2+, Mn2+, or Mg2+, the activity being stimulated by these cations in the above order. The apparent Km value for α1-3α1-6 mannopentaose of GnT I in bFF was 2.17 mM. | The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between circulating oxytocin (OT) and PGF2α metabolite (PGFM) in mares at the third stage of labor and placental expulsion time in order to investigate a cause of retained placenta of which the incidence increase in a heavy draft mare.
