| Readers of our first CHARM I atlas will know that almost everything contained within the atlas was original work resulting from two years of intensive study of the Dover Strait by a dedicated and inter- disciplinary team working from bases on either side of the Channel. The present atlas has carried on this eminent precedent, though this time covering the whole of the eastern English Channel (figure 1) and widening considerably the thematic scope. | Pendant la période Novembre 1987 - Octobre 1988, l'échauffement de l'eau dans le canal de rejet est équivalent à la période précédente (+ 8°C à + 8.5°C): Le taux de recyclage de l'eau calculé par rapport au bromoforme est de 4.3 %. Le bromoforme présente une valeur moyenne de 14 llg/1. La concentration moyenne annuelle de vibrions est 100 fois plus élevée au rejet qu'à la prise d'eau. La destruction de la biomasse chlorophyllienne due au transit est voisine de 50 % et celle de la biomasse zooplanctonique exprimée en carbone est d'environ 40 %. En 1988, les conditions météorologiques ont été favorables à la prolifération des Phaeocystis puis des noctiluques dans un milieu très eutrophisé. | This report is the 19th annual surveillance of the nuclear plant site of Gravelines. Low temperatures are observed in january (water t° = 0°20 in entrance) and high in Automne. Chlorination was stopped three months and half only. Bromoform mean value is 24,4 ug.l-1 . Vibrio variations are linked with fish farm increasing. In April chlorophyll maximum is 18 mg In-3 . Zooplanktonic succession and biomass are usual. Earlyness in sole and spart reproduction was noticeable. Spionidae distribution is linked to nuclear effluent on interdidal zone. Power plant impact is studied in subtidal Abra alba ecosystem. |

| La stratégie de surveillance est identique à celle des années précédentes. Durant la période 1997-1998, les températures plus élevées que la normale ont été relevées la température moyenne de l'air s'établit, pour la période, à 11,6 °C. La pluviosité globale est également supérieure à la normale avec 778 mm, comparée à 675 mm, valeur moyenne des années précédentes. La température de l'eau observée était 5,5 °C, ce qui est élevé pour le 2 février. Le maximum, le 10 août, est normal 20,3 °C. La moyenne annuelle à la prise est 12,89 °C, soit 0,55 °C supérieure a la période précédente. |

| The North Sea Benthos Project 2000 was initiated as a follow-up to the 1986 ICES North Sea Benthos Survey with the major aim to identify changes in the macrofauna species distribution and community structure in the North Sea and their likely causes. The results showed that the large-scale spatial distribution of macrofauna communities in the North Sea hardly changed between 1986 and 2000, with the main divisions at the 50 m and 100 m depth contours. Water temperature and salinity as well as wave exposure, tidal stress and primary production were influential environmental factors on a large (North Sea-wide) spatial scale. | This is the 22th annual surveillance report concerning the Gravelines nuclear power plant. The climatology characteristics for 1999 are 11.4° C for air temperature and 769 mm for rainfall. The average AT is 8.35° C measuring water temperature at the entrance and outfall of nuclear plant. Bromoform average value was 20.2 ug/l and the percentage of water recirculation was 6.8 %. Annual oscillation Vibrio was similar to that of previous years : V. aginolyticus is the main species and V cholerae nag is the second (13 %). The maximum chlorophyll biomass was 33 mg/m3 in April as a consequence of the Phaeocystis bloom. | This study examines whether meso-scale meteorological events, in particular the alternation of cold and mild periods, influenced the structure of four Abi cr alba communities, sampled from 1977 to 1992 on the northwest French coast. We propose a new numerical procedure to describe temporal variations in the structure of each assemblage, using some niche-oriented models recently developed by Tokeshi (1993). The description of the temporal changes in the structure of each community was summarized into a 2D-plot of an ordination, performed on observed and simulated patterns. La quantité moyenne d'électricité produite par la centrale pour la période est de 4000 MW, soit l'équivalent de 4.4 tranches, pour un débit moyen calculé de 212 m3/s, soit l'équivalent du débit de pompage de 5.3 tranches. La quantité moyenne hebdomadaire d'électricité produite pour la période est de 618 MW.h, soit l'équivalent de quatre tranches, pour un débit moyen calculé de 204 m3/s, soit l'équivalent du débit de pompage de 5 tranches.
