| Un des aspects de l'étude écologique d'avant-projet du site marémoteur du golfe normano-breton confié par EDF au CNEXO a consisté à identifier les peuplements benthiques de la zone intertidale de la baie du Mont-St-Michel. L'idée directrice a été de définir les différentes composantes faunistiques de la baie en fonction~ notamment la nature du substrat et du niveau bathymétrique. L'analyse des données bibliographiques a fait rapidement apparaître le manque de données biologiques dans la partie orientale de la baie, aussi l'étude a-t-elle été centrée sur ce secteur. |

| Predictive modelling to map subtidal communities is an alternative to "traditional" methods, such as direct sampling, remote sensing and acoustic survey, which are neither time- nor cost-effective for vast expanses. The principle of this modelling is the use of a combination of environmental key parameters to produce rules to understand species distribution and hence generate predictive maps. This study focuses on subtidal kelp forests (KF) on the coast of Brittany, France. | Un-quantified observations seem to indicate a decrease in brown algae blanket in inter-tidal zones along several coastlines. The goal of this contract, which is CEVA's contribution to REBENT- Bretagne_ year 2003, regards the quantitative evaluation and long term follow up of fucales in inter-tidal zones. The work that was accomplished during a previous contract with CEVA had allowed defining a SPOT image processing protocol used to evaluate and follow up, in time, global vegetal blankets. | Marine litter is a matter of increasing concern worldwide, from shallow seas to the open ocean and from beaches to the deep-seafloor. Indeed, the deep sea may be the ultimate repository of a large proportion of litter in the ocean. We used footage acquired with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and a towed camera to investigate the distribution and composition of litter in the submarine canyons of the Bay of Biscay. | The study of the sublittoral bottoms near the Flamanville site has been tackled in the pilot studies (1976) and project studies (1977 - 1979) in the aim of assessing benthic populations. Given the coarse nature of the sea bed, the identification (figure 1) was carried out using a towed tool susceptible of sampling in a semi-quantitative way on a wide variety of substrates: a Rallier du Baty drag. | This paper addresses the need for a finer description of coastal zone relief that is currently of interest for benthic habitat mapping. For example, the distribution of seaweed species in the tidal zone will mostly depend on the terrain's hypsometric level, slope and orientation. These parameters can be used in predictive distribution models, or more simply merged with 2.5/3D imagery to enhance interpretation. | Ce document présente un atlas relativement exhaustif de cartes d’habitats concernant les façades Manche et Atlantique du littoral français : cartes historiques de peuplements benthiques à diverses échelles et de végétation marine à des échelles variant entre 1/5000 et 1/20000. Ces différentes cartes sont présentées telles qu’elles ont été publiées par leurs auteurs respectifs et aussi, dans le cas des cartes à petite échelle, en typologie européenne normalisée EUNIS1 (Version 200410).
