A STUDY OF THE IMPACT OF LAND USE AND OCCUPATION ON BASIN WATER QUALITY THROUGH MULTIVARIATE STATISTICS REA
Santos,Gilmar O.; Hernandez,Fernando B. T.; Ferraudo,Antonio S.; Vanzela,Luiz S.; Santos,Duílio J. O..
ABSTRACT Without effective actions to improve environmental management, water resources tend to become scarce. Thus, this study aimed to understand the processes influencing the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the water due to land uses and occupation in the Ipê stream basin, in Ilha Solteira - SP (Brazil), regarding the dependence of the analyzed variables. Monitoring of chemical, physical, and biological water quality was performed from 2006 to 2011, and the records of land use and occupation in 2011. A factorial multivariate analysis allowed us to understand that the processes in densely populated areas increased degradation of water by the input of organic loads, yet those of farming areas enhanced the degradation of the chemical and...

Études méthodologiques développées à l'échelle nationale. Livrable 1 – Confiance et précision pour l'indicateur M-AMBI ArchiMer
Brun, Mélanie.
The index used by France to assess the quality of coastal water bodies of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), for the Channel-Atlantic coast and for the quality element "soft substratum benthic invertebrates" is the M-AMBI. In their work, Sigovini et al. (2013) compare several methods of calculating M-AMBI and alternative indices with the values of M-AMBI. Their results show strong correlations between the values of the M-AMBI and those of the proposed alternatives. In a first step, the present work aims to compare M-AMBI values, obtained during the application of the assessment procedure of the quality of coastal water bodies for the Channel-Atlantic coast on the 2007 and 2010 data, with the values obtained for various alternative calculations and...

Long-term changes (1979-1994) in two coastal benthic communities (English Channel): analysis of structural developments ArchiMer
Davoult, D; Dewarumez, Jm; Migne, A.
The long-term variations of two coastal benthic communities (Eastern English Channel, France) were studied between 1979 and 1994 by means of factor correspondence analysis (FCA), trophic structure and rank-frequency diagrams (RFD). FCA identified periods of relative homogeneity and periods of strong variation in the structure of the two communities. The first community, established on heterogeneous sand, showed a multi-annual cycle Linked to grain-size variations in the sediment. As passive supplies of organic matter were not important and suspension feeders could hardly live in these conditions, the community remained poor and stable and was dominated by deposit-feeders and carnivores. The other one, a rich and diverse mussel (Mytilus edulis) bed, showed...

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the consistency of the methods of Annicchiarico, Lin & Binns, Wricke, and factor analysis in identifying eucalyptus clones with stability, adaptability, and high productive potential. Eight-four clones, with three years of age, from the genetic breeding program of the company CMPC Celulose Riograndense were used. Three field experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design, in an 84x3 factorial arragement, with 20 replicates of one plant per plot. The clones were evaluated as to diameter at breast height, plant height, and volume of wood. The methods of Annicchiarico and Lin & Binns are highly correlated with each other, and their use together with the method of Wricke is a...

Biased estimates in discrete choice models: the appropriate inclusion of psychometric data into the valuation of recycled wastewater AgEcon
Gibson, Fiona L.; Burton, Michael P..
The introduction of measurement bias in parameter estimates into non-linear discrete choice models, as a result of using factor analysis, was identified by Train et al. (1987). They found that the inclusion of factor scores, used to represent relationships amongst like variables, into a subsequent discrete choice models introduced measurement bias as the measurement error associated with each factor score is excluded. This is an issue for non-market valuation given the increase in popularity of including psychometric data, such as primitive beliefs, attitudes and motivations, in willingness to pay estimates. This study explores the relationship between willingness to pay and primitive beliefs through a case study eliciting Perth community values for...

ANALYZING AGRICULTURE PRODUCTIVITY INDICATORS AND IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON CEECS AGRICULTURE AgEcon
Singh, Mahesh Kumar; Kapuszta, Agnes; Fekete-Farkas, Maria.
The agriculture has an outstanding importance both in social and economic point of view, especially in the countries where the agriculture plays a vital role in economy. This paper mainly focuses on the situation in the Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs). The share of agriculture in CEECs is more significant both in GDP and employment than in the old member states of EU. To be competitive on the single market, we have to know the advantages and disadvantages, strength and weakness of different sectors of agriculture. Traditionally, in these countries to measure the effectiveness, the partial factor analyses are used. To get more accurate overview, we need to use more wide technique to sampling measurement. This paper summarizes the measurement...

Factors Affecting Maize Producers Adoption of Forward Pricing in Price Risk Management: The Case of Vaalharts AgEcon
Jordaan, Henry; Grove, Bennie.
Logistic regression is employed to analyse the factors which influence the decision of whether or not the respondent used forward pricing methods during the 2004/05 maize production season. Forward pricing methods include cash forward contracting and hedging with futures contracts and/or options, through the South African Futures Exchange (SAFEX). Based on the results, the use of forward pricing is associated with lower levels of risk aversion and higher levels of human capital. Factor analysis is employed to reduce the dimensionality of the personal reasons which help to interpret the underlying, common factor of the personal reasons why farmers are reluctant to use forward pricing methods. Three factors were extracted and were labelled “Lack of...

ADOPTION OF E-COMMERCE STRATEGIES FOR AGRIBUSINESS FIRMS AgEcon
Henderson, Jason R.; Dooley, Frank J.; Akridge, Jay T..
This paper analyzes the factors guiding Internet and e-commerce implementation by agribusiness firms. The relationship between Internet/e-commerce strategies and manager perceptions on the barriers and factors to e-commerce adoption are analyzed in a supply-chain management framework. Using factor analysis and an ordered Probit model, results indicate that the implementation of Internet/e-commerce strategies is more likely to be adopted in larger firms with a global scope. Also, manager perceptions regarding supply-chain functions influencing transaction costs are more strongly associated with Internet/e-commerce adoption than other functions influencing production costs.

Factor that Affect Arkansas Farm Operators’ and Landowners’ Decision to Participate in Agritourism AgEcon
Rainey, Daniel V.; Djunaidi, Harjanto; McCullough, Stacey W.; Das, Biswa R..
This study utilizes survey data analyzed at the regional level to obtain additional insights which may be left unnoticed if the analysis only considers data at the state level. The current analysis reveals that farm operators’ and/or landowners’ decision to participate in the agritourism industry in Arkansas is affected by state government infrastructure. But these infrastructures are varied among regions. The infrastructures are state government support in training the farm operators; in promotion and marketing as well as certainty and transparency in laws and regulations. State government’s sponsored trainings in agritourism along with marketing and promotion are viewed as the most important factors in all studied regions that affect operators’...
