STATISTICAL CONTROL OF PROCESSES APLIED FOR PEANUT MECHANICAL DIGGING IN SOIL TEXTURAL CLASSES REA
Zerbato,Cristiano; Furlani,Carlos E. A.; Silva,Rouverson P. da; Voltarelli,Murilo A.; Santos,Adão F. Dos.
ABSTRACT The digging of peanut, which has the pod production in the subsurface, is directly affected by soil conditions, physical or environmental characteristics, at the time of operation and may be the cause of unwanted losses. Therefore, the quality of the operation is very important for minimizing these losses. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the quality of mechanized digging operation of peanut according to three soil textural classes (Sandy, Medium and Loamy) and their water content conditions at operation through statistical process control. The experiment was conducted at three locations in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, under sampling scheme arranged in tracks and 40 sampling points for each textural class of soil, using the mechanical digging...

TILLAGE INTERFERENCE IN THE QUALITY OF PEANUT MECHANIZED HARVEST REA
Ormond,Antonio T. S.; Dos Santos,Adão F.; Alcantara,Aline S.; Zerbato,Cristiano; Furlani,Carlos E. A..
ABSTRACT In Brazil, a large portion of peanut production is found under conventional soil preparation. Due to the fact that there is a lack in studies related to the cultivation of peanuts in conservationists soil preparation, mainly in the field of losses and mechanized harvesting. Thus, it was aimed to assess the quality of digging and gathering operation of peanut, based on losses, using statistical process control techniques in two tillages. The sowing was carried out under conventional and conservationist preparation, revolving only the sowing line. Losses were evaluated in the digging and gathering operation, being that in the gathering it was evaluated the harvest losses in three displacement speeds (4, 6 and 8 km h-1) in two tillages. The quality...

Asian soybean rust in Brazil: past, present, and future PAB
Godoy,Cláudia Vieira; Seixas,Claudine Dinali Santos; Soares,Rafael Moreira; Marcelino-Guimarães,Franscismar Correa; Meyer,Maurício Conrado; Costamilan,Leila Maria.
Abstract: Asian soybean rust, caused by the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is the most severe disease of the crop and can cause yield losses of up to 90%. The disease was first reported in Brazil in 2001. Epidemics of the disease are common in the country, where the fungus can survive year-round. Regulatory measures to reduce the inoculum between seasons and avoid late-season soybean have been adopted to manage the disease. Disease control has relied mainly on chemical control, but a lower sensibility of the fungus to fungicides has been reported in Brazil. Major-resistance genes have been mapped and incorporated into the cultivars. With the reduced efficacy of the fungicides, the adoption of integrated measures to control the disease will be important for...

Most frequent bovine diseases in cattle herds in the West-Transdanubian Region AgEcon
Varga, Noemi; Varallyay, Erika Bertalanne; Salamon, Lajos.
The political and economical changes in 1989 and 90 influenced Hungary’s agriculture greatly. The transition hit the branches of animal husbandry more than plant growing. Cattle husbandry is one of the most important branches of agriculture in Hungary. Its production is equally important both for the domestic and for export markets. Under the present market conditions Hungary will only be able to maintain its cattle stock if the profitability and competitiveness of the branch can be enhanced considering the requirements of the European Union. Therefore the hidden causes of economic losses should be revealed and solutions have to be found in order to eliminate them. It is only possible if data on the health state of the herds are available. Several factors...

Risk Classification in Animal Disease Prevention: Who Benefits from Differentiated Policy? AgEcon
Niemi, Jarkko K.; Lyytikainen, Tapani; Sahlstrom, Leena; Virtanen, Terhi; Lehtonen, Heikki.
Risk classification of livestock farms can help stakeholders design and implement risk management measures according to the possessed risk. Our goal is to examine how differently pig farms may contribute to the societal costs of an animal disease outbreak, how valuable this information is to different stakeholders, and how it can be used to target risk management measures. We show that the costs of an outbreak starting from a certain farm can be quantified for the entire sector using bio-economic models. In further studies, this quantified risk can be differentiated so that farms and slaughterhouses internalise the full cost of risk in production decisions and inhibit animal densities, animal contact structures or other characteristics which pose a threat...

Can combine headers and travel speeds affect the quality of soybean harvesting operations? AGRIAMBI
Menezes,Patricia C. de; Silva,Rouverson P. da; Carneiro,Franciele M.; Girio,Lucas A. da S.; Oliveira,Mailson F. de; Voltarelli,Murilo A..
ABSTRACT Assuring the quality of mechanical soybean harvesting is crucial to ensure that investment in other stages of crop production is converted into profit for the farmer. Because the quality of this operation is related to decreased losses, which may be affected by the combine header used and by the harvesting speed, the aim of the present study was to assess the quality of mechanical soybean harvesting in the Southern Cone of Rondônia, using harvesters with different combine headers and travel speeds via statistical process control. The experiment was performed during the 2015/16 harvest in an agricultural area of the municipality of Cabixi, RO, located at the geographical coordinates 13° 27’ S and 60° 41’ W. The study was designed based on the...

Györke,Adriana; Kalmár,Zsuzsa; Pop,Loredana Maria; Şuteu,Ovidiu Loan.
ABSTRACT A survey was conducted on chicken broiler farms from Romania in August-November 2010 to evaluate economic losses due to coccidiosis. Data were collected from six broiler farms of different capacity regarding chemoprophylaxis program, weight gain, feed conversion, and mortality, for two previous flocks in two houses of each farm, and finally we evaluated the economic losses. Also, faeces samples were collected and oocysts were classified according to their size, and virulence of each Eimeria spp. field isolate was determined by lesion scoring. Correlations between economic performance, oocysts category, and virulence of Eimeria were assessed by multiple linear regression. Total economic losses per 24 flocks of 18,000 chicks each were about...

Relationship between somatic cell counts and milk production and composition in Jersey cows Rev Salud Anim.
Ramos Garcia,Roberto; Bufon Maion,Vinicius; Molin de Almeida,Kelly; Walter de Santana,Elsa Helena; Rezende Costa,Marcela; Fagnani,Rafael; Ludovico,Agostinho.
The main components in milk from cows that are affected by mastitis can be in different amounts according to the racial characteristics. Thus, the association between the somatic cell counts (SCC) and these components may also differ in milk from Jersey cows. This study evaluated the effect of the SCC in milk from Jersey cows on milk production and its physicochemical composition. For 71 months, data from 3244 milking and 300 cows were evaluated considering the effect of the SCC on milk production (kg cow day-1), percentage of fat, protein, lactose, total solids, and nonfat solids. The probable factors associated with fluctuation in milk production based on somatic cell score, lactation number and rainfall were also evaluated by regression models. Milk...

Post-harvest quality of fresh-marketed tomatoes as a function of harvest periods Scientia Agricola
Ferreira,Marcos David; Franco,André Toshiro Oshima; Kasper,Ricardo Freitas; Ferraz,Antonio Carlos Oliveira; Honório,Sylvio Luiz; Tavares,Marcelo.
Losses on tomato business chain start at harvest, a two-months period. At the beginning of the harvest, fruits concentrate at the basal part of the plant, then in the middle, and finally at the top, and undergo changes in diameter and maturity indexes as harvest progresses. The aim of this work was to evaluate the impact of handling at three different periods: (I) 15 days, (II) 30 days, and (III) 45 days after the beginning of harvest. Tomatoes were ordinarily grown and harvested in to bamboo baskets, and transferred to plastics boxes. Fruits were classified according to ripening stage and diameter, and evaluated for mechanical damage and external defects caused by harvesting procedures. The time required for the harvest operation was measured; damage to...
