Infoteca-e

III. Bilan azoté de systèmes polytrophes ArchiMer
Chamroux, S.; Boucher, G..
The evolution of nitrogen content in experimental closed circuit ¿and filters was followed, each tank being fed with different quantities of soluble organic matter. According to the trophic conditions, two types of metabolism could be observed : - a loss of nitrogen (denitrification), reaching almost 90% of the nitrogen input in eutrophic conditions, and close to 35% in mesotrophic conditions. - a gain in nitrogen (fixation), a predominant metabolism in oligotrophic and eutrophic conditions. Nitrogen retention in the sediment increases slightly with the organic matter input, but no proportionality could be established. It seems that the sediment, by its bacterial metabolisms, regulates its own organic matter richness.

The WTO, Agricultural Trade Reform and the Environment: Nitrogen and Agro-chemical Indicators for the OECD AgEcon
Rae, Allan N.; Strutt, Anna.
The WTO Ministerial Statement of November 2001 mandates work on those situations where reduction of trade restrictions would benefit both trade and the environment. To contribute to such research, we use a modified version of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model to estimate for OECD countries' changes in two environmental indicators resulting from simulated trade reforms: the impact on regional nitrogen balances, and associated changes in intensity of agro-chemical use. The trade reforms simulated lead to slightly improved nitrogen balances at the aggregate OECD level, with more ambitious trade reform resulting in a larger aggregate improvement. Most regions with a high initial per hectare nitrogen surplus are expected to experience some...

Monteiro-Motta,Ana Carolina; Scapinello,Cláudio; Oliveira,Andréia Fróes Galuci; Figueira,Josianny Limeira; Catelan,Fernanda; Sato,Joyce; Stanquevis,Caroline Espejo.
Two experiments were carried out to evaluate, respectively, nitrogen balance (NB) and the productive performance of 31-to-50-day-old rabbits subjected to different levels of lysine and methionine+cystine (met+cys). Seventy-five animals were randomly distributed in 5 × 3 blocks (five levels of lysine: 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5 and 9.5 g/kg combined with three levels of met+cys: 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 g/kg), with 15 treatments and five replications for the NB assay. The assay lasted 14 days: 10 days for acclimatization and four days for feces and urine collection. Increasing met+cys levels had a quadratic effect on the nitrogen excreted in urine (NU): the lowest excretion was found at the dietary level of 5.9 g/kg met+cys. Increasing lysine levels also affected NU and...
