Knockdown of E2f1 by RNA interference impairs proliferation of rat cells in vitro Genet. Mol. Biol.

E2F1 plays a key role in cell-cycle regulation in mammals, since its transcription factor activity controls genes required for DNA synthesis and apoptosis. E2F1 deregulation is a common feature among different tumor types and can be a major cause of cell proliferation. Thus, blocking E2F1 expression by RNA interference represents a promising therapeutic approach. In this study, the introduction of specific short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) reduced E2f1 expression by up to 77%, and impaired rat glioma cell proliferation by approximately 70%, as compared to control cells. The 1998 survey of green tides on the Brittany coast was performed in the same way as that of 1997 in order to allow comparison. 11 includes an inventory ofail the concerned sites, and a precise assessment ofthirteen ofthem, the most loaded. On these ones, nitrogen fluxes were surveyed during the critical period, and the green seaweed stock on the beach and in the first waves was quantified. The yearly study of Ulva in Brittany aims at building a time series of its proliferations and corresponding nutrient loadings. The goal is to detect results of wilful loading reductions, and to distinguish them from natural variations. This first actually quantified study is the starting bench-mark of the process. Forty-five concerned sites were listed in 1997. They are nearly the same as in 1988, 1991 and 1994 (previous rough census). The Côtes d'Armor and then the Finistère are the most affected departments. Antimetastatic properties on both murine and human osteosarcoma cell lines (POS-1 and KHOS) have been evidenced using exopolysaccharide (EPS) derivatives, produced by Alteromonas infernus bacterium. Tumorhead (TH) regulates neural plate cell proliferation during Xenopus early development, and gain or loss of function prevents neural differentiation. TH shuttles between the nuclear and cytoplasmic/cortical cell compartments in embryonic cells. In this study, we show that subcellular distribution of TH is important for its functions. Targeting TH to the cell cortex/membrane potentiates a TH gain of function phenotype and results in neural plate expansion and inhibition of neuronal differentiation. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate different concentrations of two cytokinins in the in vitro propagation of the medicinal plant Hyptis marrubioides Epl. and to analyse the volatile fraction of the compounds. Nodal segments of plants were inoculated onto Murashige and Skoog (MS) solid medium with different concentrations of benzylaminopurine (BAP) or tidiazuron (TDZ) under a 16/8 h light/dark cycle at 25 ± 2 °C. After 45 days growth, the plants were evaluated for the number and length of the shoots and for shoot dry matter. The volatile constituents were analysed by headspace-GC/MS. In Iran, a large number of Rosa species have been exposed to extinction and therefore preservation techniques are necessary to safeguard their future. In the present investigation, the objectives were to optimize the micropropagation and medium-term conservation of one of these wild species, Rosa pulverulenta. Microglial cells within the developing central nervous system (CNS) originate from mesodermic precursors of hematopoietic lineage that enter the nervous parenchyma from the meninges, ventricular space and/or blood stream. Once in the nervous parenchyma, microglial cells increase in number and disperse throughout the CNS; these cells finally differentiate to become fully ramified microglial cells.
