BIOMASA, DENSIDAD Y COMPOSICION ZOOPLANCTONICA DE LA BAHIA DE MOCHIMA, VENEZUELA Gayana

La biomasa, densidad y composición del zooplancton de la bahía de Mochima fueron estudiadas durante 1998. Las muestras fueron recolectadas mensualmente en la entrada de la bahía (estación A) y en la parte interna (estación B) entre enero y diciembre de 1998. En cada estación se realizaron calados oblicuos con una malla estándar de 300 micras y 0,25 m de diámetro de boca a 0-5 y 10-15 m y a una velocidad de dos nudos durante 10 min. El índice de surgencia se calculó a partir de los datos de vientos. Se midió salinidad, temperatura del agua, concentración de oxígeno disuelto, concentración de clorofila a, biomasa y densidad del zooplancton; además se identificaron los organismos, en lo posible hasta especie. Trials on the seabass weaning in atlantic marshes (Roux, 1993), have shown that the use of frozen prey improved this step and reduced his resulting stress. During the present study, which must confirmed these preliminary results, three alimentary sequences were tested. 1) natural zooplankton, weaning pellets, as control, 2) natural zooplankton, inert artemia (intensively produced), weaning pellets, 3) natural zooplankton, natural frozen zooplankton (harvested), weaning pellets. The achieved results show that weaning with intermediary phases (sequences 2 or 3) yield best results. These studies of halieutic ecology produced at the request of Electricité de France by the French Institute of Research for Exploitation of the Sea in the Normand Breton Gulf must constitute one of the elements making it possible to come to a conclusion or not on the feasibility of the tidal power plant construction project; these studies have three parts: The first part discusses halieutic zooplankton. Marteilia refringens est un protozoaire parasite de l'huître plate Ostrea edulis, à l'origine de mortalités dramatiques en élevage depuis les années 1970. En zone endémique, le seul moyen de contrôle de la marteiliose, est une gestion du risque de contamination. Dans ce cadre, la connaissance du cycle parasitaire de Marteilia refringens est primordiale. Les travaux réalisés à ce sujet ont permis de poser l'hypothèse d'un cycle hétéroxène. Le parasite a été détecté par PCR puis localisé au sein des tissus par hybridation in situ au sein d'une espèce de copépode Calanoide prélevée dans une claire ostréicole. Space and time variations in zooplankton distribution south of Marseilles ArchiMer

The mesozooplankton distribution in the upper water layer (up to 200 m) off Marseilles (NW Mediterranean Sea) was studied during 22 cruises performed between March 1992 and February 1995. Four stations (M1, M3, M5 and M7) were investigated along a coast-open sea transect. Spatial and seasonal variations of zooplankton were described using different quantitative parameters: biomass (dry weight, carbon, nitrogen), displacement volume (biovolume) and abundance of total organisms. Time series analysis of interrupted long-term data set (1961-1991) of zooplankton abundance in Gulf of Maine (northern Atlantic, USA) ArchiMer

The main interannual and seasonal signals have been extracted from a multi-decadal data set of zooplankton collected with the Continuous Plankton Recorder in the Gulf of Maine, from January 1961 to December 1991. The monthly abundances of seven species or genera of copepods representing the dominant biomass in the area were considered. The presence of a large consecutive gap (35 months) prevented the use of statistical methods for the prediction of missing data. The eigen-vector filtering (EVF) method was then used on the original time series, while retaining the missing values. Zooplankton study presented in this paper, is one of the three parts of fish ecology study undertaken by IFREMER in 1983 on Electricité de France request. The present work draws up an inventory of young stages from meroplanktonic species (fish eggs and larvae, crustacean larvae and postlarvae) in the area studied (a part of gulf of St Malo) together with rather large holoplanktonic organisms. Sampling period (from March to September) and periodicity were choosen according to study of hatching area and period of economical crustaceans. An hydrological study was carried out in the same time.

Choosing the best conditions for the cultivation of plankton in tanks is a difficult deal, which is generally solved by means of subjective estimations. A better way of looking for these conditions is the use of a mathematical model. _ We have tried to built a model that accounts for the physical and bio­logical characteristics of the tanks. Une méthode d'estimation des potentialités de production secondaire pélagique est proposée, tirant profit de l'homologie interspécifique de certains processus métaboliques élémentaires. Elle consiste à mesurer l'activité de l'aspartate transcarbamylase (A TC), enzyme contribuant à la biosynthèse de composants de base des acides nucléiques, sur des échantillons du peuplement mésozooplanctonique total.
