The holotype of Carex sagei comes from central Chile, and this name has long been treated as a synonym of C. fuscula. Recent study indicates, however, that C. sagei is referrable to Carex section Ceratocystis, whereas C. fuscula belongs in section Spirostachyae. It is also demonstrated that C. sagei is the correct name for plants currently called C. barrosii. Carex sagei is known from Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), where it frequents hydric habitats, such as marshes, wet meadows, and the margins of lakes, from near sea level to about 850 m. |

Munroa is a morphologically heterogeneous American genus of grasses, including five species with disjunct distribution in North and South America. Dasyochloa is a monotypic grass genus, common in western North America, with a controversial taxonomic position, because it has been alternatively included in Erioneuron, Koeleria, Triodia, and Uralepis. We evaluated the relationship of Dasyochloa with Munroa using a phylogenetic analysis of qualitative and quantitative morphological data. Dasyochloa was not supported as an independent genus from Munroa, as Dasyochloa and Munroa species formed a monophyletic group defined by seven synapomorphies. On this basis, we transfer Dasyochloa to Munroa, and propose the new combination M. pulchella together with the... |

kleinii is similar to a group of terrestrial species characterized by their small pseudobulbs, buried underground, and small flowers, but it can be distinguished by the color of its flowers, lip lateral lobes slightly or not falcate and subequal in length and width, lip midlobe base with little or no constriction, and geographical distribution. Cyrtopodium brandonianum subsp. lageanum is similar in general flower color to typical C. brandonianum, but it can be distinguished by its earlier flowering, leaves poorly developed at anthesis and different shape and colour of the lip. Both taxa are rare and only known from southern Brazil. |
