The Rotator Cuff Footprint: A Cadaveric Study of the Morphometry and Morphology International Journal of Morphology
Naidoo,N; Lazarus,L; Satyapal,K. S.
The musculotendinous hood of the rotator cuff muscle complex is formed by four tendons which thicken and merge with the underlying glenohumeral capsule as they insert onto the respective regions of the humeral head. This insertional anatomy has been reported to exhibit several pathological patterns which serve as the basis for the operative repair of cuff tears. Since previous literature concentrated on macro-evaluations of tears specific to the supraspinatus tendon, the present study aimed to investigate the macro- morphological and morphometric parameters of all four rotator cuff tendons. Observation of the insertion site configurations and computation of the relative tendon morphometry were performed once the glenohumeral region in forty adult cadaveric...

Pitol,Dimitrius Leonardo; Issa,Joao Paulo Mardegan; Caetano,Flávio Henrique; Lunardi,Laurelúcia Orive.
The Phrynops hilarii specie of turtle has its characterization not well defined in the literature, it was proposed in this study the leukocyte characterization of the blood, stained by Leishman and analyzed under light and transmission electron microscope. It was not observe any cellular type with similar characteristics to neutrophils in mammalian group. We believed, based on the data obtained in this study that the heterophils have a morphofuncional analogy with another neutrophils belonged to mammalian group. This conclusion is being supported in many recent studies found in the literature

Preliminary Study of the Sonic Muscle of Micropogonias furnieri (Actinopterygii, Sciaenidae): Morfología e Histoquímica International Journal of Morphology
Devincenti,Clelia Viviana; Díaz,Alcira Ofelia; Longo,María Victoria; García,Alicia Mabel; Figueroa,Daniel; Goldemberg,Adriana Lía.
The present study highlights the morphology of the Micropogonias furnieri sonic muscle by means of histochemical techniques, relating it to previous histochemical studies of the pectoral fin and myotomal muscles. In order to classify the muscle fibres, succinic dehydrogenase (SDH) for mitochondria, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) for glycogen, Sudan Black and Red for lipids and myosin adenosine triphosphatase (m-ATPase) pre-incubated at alkaline and acid pHs to visualize the contraction velocity, were used. The sonic fibres were smaller than the white myotomal and pectoral fibres, showed homogenous size and distribution and had features common to white fibres: negative to SDH and lipids, weakly positive to PAS and m-ATPase following acid pre-incubation, and...

Forensic Dentistry as a Morphological Exercise in the Medico-legal Investigation of Death International Journal of Morphology
Fonseca,Gabriel M; Cantín,Mario; Lucena,Joaquín.
In forensics, the nature of collected evidence makes analysis in many disciplines complex. Each type of trace evidence requires a unique systematic approach, and even though these approaches are significantly based on the size and morphology of the evidence being examined. In 1999, the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers adopted the Recommendation No. R (99)3 on the harmonization of medico-legal autopsies. This document promoted the adoption of internationally recognized and standardized protocols for forensic autopsies. Nevertheless, the interdisciplinary philosophy still needs integration of information from various investigative sources. An orientated and correct examination of the oral cavity requires specific knowledge of its anatomy and...

Histomorphometric and Immunohistochemical Study of Early Adaptative Response of the Vascular Wall in a Termino-Terminal Microsurgical Model of Femoral Vessels in Wistar Rat International Journal of Morphology
Velazquez-Gauna,Sergio E; Soto-Domínguez,Adolfo; Quiroga-Garza,Alejandro; Reyes-Hernández,Cynthia G; Chavez-Reyes,Arturo; Morales-Avalos,Rodolfo; Montes-de-Oca-Luna,Roberto; Guzmán-López,Santos; Elizondo-Omaña,Rodrigo E.
When a vein segment is grafted into arterial circulation, biomechanical forces stimulate modification of its structure. This morphological adaptive response is progressive during a medium or long term and occludes the vessel lumen, leading to a graft failure. The objective of this study was to characterize the early morphological response of the vascular wall in a terminal-terminal vascular vein graft model in Wistar rats. A segment of the femoral vein was placed in the femoral circulation. An end to end microsurgical graft anastomosis technique was implemented and standardized in twenty rats. The samples were processed with histological technique to analyze the overall structure with hematoxylin and eosin, the composition of the vessel wall with Masson...

Morphological Studies on the Vagina and Vestibule of Dromedary Camels (Camelus dromedarius) International Journal of Morphology
Sayed-Ahmed,Ahmed; Elshafey,Anwer; Abd-Elmaksoud,Ahmed.
The camel (Camelus dromedarius) is an important multipurpose livestock species and its meat represents about 10% of the red meat consumption in Egypt. The reproductive efficiency of camel under natural condition is generally considered to be low. Sound knowledge about the tubular genital organs of this species might facilitate the application of new reproductive methodology. Our study was therefore conducted to investigate the morphology of mucosal surface of vagina and vestibule on camels using light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The mucosal surface of vagina consisted of stratified columnar epithelium with mucous secreting cells (goblet-like cells). SEM of vagina revealed the presence of longitudinal primary and secondary folds and...

Digestive Peritoneum in Wistar Rat (Rattus norvegicus) International Journal of Morphology
Möller,Richard; Vazquez,Noelia; Teliz,Diana; Méndez,Virginia.
The laboratory rat (Rattus norvegicus albinus) has been used as a model for medical, biological and molecular research, for a long time. It is an interesting fact that there are no detailed descriptions of the gross anatomy of the liver and its ways of fixation. The aim of this study is to define clearly and according to the Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria principles, the liver and its way of fixation in this species of laboratory mammal. Eighty-eight rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus) were used, with a weight between 250 and 450 g. They were dissected in fresh, after been euthanized by an overdose of thiopental sodium intraperitoneal. An incision from the xiphoid cartilage up to the pubic region was made and another on each costal arch toward dorsal.

The Structural Organization of the Liver in the Chinese Fire-bellied Newt (Cynops orientalis) International Journal of Morphology
Xie,Zhao Hui; Zhong,Hong Bo; Li,Hai Jun; Hou,Yu Jie.
The morphology of Chinese fire-bellied newt liver consists of 5 lobes, with exception of a few individual differences present, which are composed by a number of hepatic lobules. Passing through the center of the lobules, a central vein radiates and is arranged in orderly row from one to several layers. The interval of the hepatic cords or masses are irregular and variable sinusoid. The hepatic sinusoidal wall consists of one layer endothelial cells or Macrophagocytus stellatus (Kupffer cells), which have protrusions and elongations. The intervals of the hepatic cells have perisinusoidal space (space of Disse). The hepatic cell is polygonal in shape with uniform, round or oval nucleus, 17.812.4µm in diameter, mean 14.2 µm 2-6 nucleoli, nuclear-cytoplasmic...

Bazaldúa Cruz,Juan José; González Larios,Amalia; Gómez Sánchez,Arnulfo; Villarreal Silva,Eliud Enrique; Velázquez Gauna,Sergio Everardo; Sánchez Uresti,Antonio; Elizondo-Omaña,Rodrigo Enrique; Guzmán López,Santos.
Knowing the dimensions of the vertebral elements is very important for the development of instrumentation related to the cervical spine. Ethnic variations have been reported in these dimensions and, to date, there have been no morphometric studies of this area performed on the Mexican population. We conducted a morphometric study of 150 cervical vertebrae (C3-C7) obtained from a northeastern Mexican population to determine the dimensions of the bodies, pedicles, laminae, spinous processes, and superior and inferior articular processes. We did not find significant differences (p<0.05) in measurements taken of the left and right sides. The dimensions of the vertebral bodies were larger at lower levels. The pedicles of the C3 vertebra were larger in all...
