STARCH EXTRACTION FROM THE PEACH PALM (Bactris gasepaes Kunth.) FRUIT: A MODEL APPROACH FOR YIELD INCREASE REA
Melo Neto,Biano A. de; Bonomo,Renata C. F.; Franco,Marcelo; Almeida,Paulo F. de; Pontes,Karen V..
ABSTRACT The objective was to study the starch extraction process of the peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth.) fruit focused on increasing yield and in preserving the quality characteristics the extracted product. Two experimental designs are carried out in order to investigate the effects of NaOH and NaHSO3 concentrations, as well as the decantation time, on the yield of starch and on product color. Firstly, a 23 full factorial design provided a linear model with 95% of confidence, indicating major tendencies for optimization. Secondly, a 22 central composite design rendered a quadratic model which allowed the maximization of yield (it 9.0% higher) without compromising the color of the product. The maximum yield of 23.90%, validated with triplicate...

CHEMICAL CHANGES IN BEAN GRAINS DURING STORAGE IN CONTROLLED CONDITIONS REA
Almeida,Ana J. B. de; Coelho,Silvia R. M.; Schoeninger,Vanderleia; Christ,Divair.
ABSTRACT Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a traditional food in the diet of Brazilians, due to its low fat content and it is rich in vitamins, protein, fiber, carbohydrates and minerals. One of the major problems related to this product is storage without temperature and humidity control, causing quality reduction of this legume. This study aimed to evaluate the effects suffered by cooking time parameters, seed coat color, phytate and minerals (P, Ca, Mg and Mn) content during storage. The grain varieties: BRS Madrepérola, BRS Estilo, BRS Pontal and CNFC 10467, from the pinto group, were stored in hermetic acrylic containers with humidity and temperature controlled for a period of 108 days. All varieties had better results of the parameters studied when...

OUTDOOR CULTIVATION OF Scenedesmus obliquus BR003 IN STIRRED TANKS BY AIRLIFT REA
Pereira,Emanuele G.; Martins,Marcio A.; Mendes,Mariana dos S. A.; Mendes,Leonardo B. B.; Nesi,Adriano Nunes.
ABSTRACT: The use of microalgae as a source of raw material for biofuel production has been highly targeted. Compared to other biological options for the capture and use of CO2, microalgae crops have the following advantages: high productivity, lack of competition with feed and food-based products, use of unproductive and non-arable land, and allowance of the use of wastewater for its cultivation. The use of wastewater from industrial, agricultural, and domestic sewage has been indicated as an alternative means to reduce the cost of crops, since such waste is generally released into the environment without previous treatment. This work addresses the use of petrochemical wastewater (ARP) from effluent produced at the Gabriel Passos Refinery (Petrobrás...

CROP COEFFICIENT REGIONALIZATION FOR IRRIGATED AGRICULTURE PLANNING IN MARANHÃO STATE -BRAZIL REA
Silva,Wilson A. Da; Santana,Jhonata S.; Silva,Cristiane M. Da; Nunes,Acassio A..
ABSTRACT: Irrigated agriculture has emerged as a necessary technology to achieve greater productivity, mainly by supplying the water requirements of agricultural crops in critical periods, especially for those regions where natural rainfall is insufficient to meet these requirements. The daily water consumption of crops is strongly influenced by local weather conditions, which justifies the need for regionalized studies of the parameters influencing the water depth to be applied. The crop coefficient (Kc) is perhaps the most important parameter because it interferes directly with the crop water requirements. This index must be determined for each region, thus avoiding the use of reference values meant for other climatic conditions, causing loss of...

TOPOGRAPHIC ASPECTS IN THE SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DYNAMIC OF NET RADIATION REA
Filgueiras,Roberto; Nicolete,Donizeti A. P.; Carvalho,Tânia M. de; Cunha,Antonio R. da; Zimback,Célia R. L..
ABSTRACT: The measurements obtained by remote sensing are influenced by issues related to relief. Based on that, this paper aims to analyze the spatial and temporal dynamics of the net radiation (Rn), considering the influence of topographic parameters on it, in Edgárdia Experimental Farm (FEE). It was used the methodology based on the SEBAL algorithm (Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land) to estimate the net radiation by orbital images. In order to assess the topographic influence on the computing of net radiation, three methodologies were applied: without topographic correction (RnSem), cosine correction (RnCos) and C correction (RnC). These methodologies were applied on 21 images of the orbital platform Landsat-5/TM, from 1985 up to 2010. Due to...

TEMPORAL VARIABILITY IN ACTIVE REFLECTANCE SENSOR-MEASURED NDVI IN SOYBEAN AND WHEAT CROPS REA
Beneduzzi,Humberto M.; Souza,Eduardo G.; Bazzi,Claudio L.; Schenatto,Kelyn.
ABSTRACT: Optimization of N management is one of the great challenges to be overcome in grain production, as it is directly related to productivity and can also cause environmental damage. Precision agriculture aims to solve this problem by applying nitrogen fertilizer at varying rates. Reflectance sensors are instruments capable of estimating N needs in various crops, including grain crops. However, it is not clear how these sensors perform under varying solar radiation and cloud cover, due to a lack of research on their temporal variability. Thus, this study examined the temporal variability of the NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index), as measured by an active reflectance sensor, in both soybean and wheat crops. The NDVI data were collected...

Rosa,Danielle M.; Sampaio,Silvio C.; Pereira,Pâmela A. M.; Reis,Ralpho R. Dos; Sbizzaro,Mariana.
ABSTRACT: Soil application of swine wastewater for nutrient cycling may represent a correct destination of these residues and reduction in production costs. However, when applied to soil, such residue may cause environmental impacts. This study aimed to analyze the chemical characteristics of the soil, corn, and leachate after successive swine wastewater applications associated with mineral fertilization. The experiment was developed in drainage lysimeters under field conditions. Wastewater doses applied were 0, 100, 200, and 300 m3 ha−1 with and without mineral fertilization. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey's test. After nine years of application, a special attention should be taken regarding water quality from a dose of 200...

SPRAYING QUALITY OF CROP PROTECTION PRODUCTS USING TWO DROPLET SPECTRA IN THREE PERIODS OF THE DAY REA
Graziano,Carlos E. P. L.; Alves,Karina A.; Gandolfo,Marco A.; Dario,Gustavo; Oliveira,Rone B..
ABSTRACT: Spraying of crop protection products can be affected by weather conditions and spray nozzles, altering deposition patterns and coverage of the target surface. The objective of this research was to analyze the quality of sprayings performed in three periods of the day (9:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm), using two different droplet sizes (fine and coarse) in soybeans. Coverage and deposition were evaluated in the upper, middle, and lower portion of soybean canopy. Spraying the products at 2:00 pm increased leaf coverage in the medium portion but also increased losses to the soil. Spray nozzles with fine droplet sizes provided greater coverage and deposition in the medium and upper portion of the crop for the sprayings performed in the morning. If...
