| Due to the residual effect of antibiotics and the need to eradicate its usage in poultry industry. A 98-days experiment was carried out to determine the efficacy of aqueous extract of fruits of Lagenaria breviflora Robert on faecal samples of birds of the pullet birds. Ninety (90) two-weeks old pullet birds were divided into two treatments (100 and 150g of Lagenaria breviflora per litre of water) and further subdivided into three replicates of 15 birds each. Data collected on faecal analysis (at weeks 8 and 16) were subjected to independent sample T-test. | Die Sicherung einer nachhaltigen und einheimischen Eiweißversorgung in der Monogastrierfütterung des Ökologischen Landbaus ist insbesondere im Hinblick auf eine Ausweitung der Produktion von großer Bedeutung. Körnerleguminosen dienen als Eiweißquelle in der Geflügelfütterung, und spielen als Stickstofffixierer eine wichtige Rolle in den Fruchtfolgen im Ökologischen Landbau. Da Saatwicken im Vergleich zu anderen Leguminosen geringe Standortansprüche aufweisen, ist eine Ausweitung ihrer Anbaufläche aus pflanzenbaulicher Sicht wünschenswert. | Due to the request for using entirely organically produced feed for livestock by 31st December 2017 there is a need to explore and evaluate the practical possibilities in doing that from a production and animal welfare point of view. | Ziel des Vorhabens ist es, 6 verschiedene Mastherkünfte mit unterschiedlichen Wachstumsintensitäten unter Praxisbedingungen hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung für die ökologische Hühnermast zu untersuchen und beurteilen. Hierzu werden in erster Linie Untersuchungsparameter der Tiergesundheit und Wirtschaftlichkeit (u.a. Lauffähigkeit, Gefieder- und Hautzustand, Abgangsraten, Mast- und Schlachtleistungen) heran gezogen. Die 6 Herkünfte werden auf insgesamt 8 Betrieben in 2 Durchgängen geprüft. | The purpose of the present study was to test an organic feed for chicken production. Different feed mixtures with reduced dietary energy level (< 12 MJ AME/kg) and reduced content of essential amino acids were investigated. In case of reduction a constant ratio of amino acids to energy was considered. Under the future European law for organic products all raw materials used for the feed were of organic origin. The feed consumption of the different feeding groups ran conversely proportional to the diets energy level. The obtained fattening performance and carcass yield reached a high level under the circumstances of organic production. |

| Im Erzeugerzusammenschluss Fürstenhof wirtschaften 10 Bio-Landwirtschaftsbetriebe in der Region Rostock bis nach Neubrandenburg zusammen. Die Vermarktung beginnt auf dem Feld und endet in den Regalen des nationalen Einzelhandels. So wird mit den rund 350.000 Bio-Hühnern heute ein nationaler Marktanteil von über 15 % im Segment der Bio-Eier erzielt. Die Junghennenaufzucht und die Futtererzeugung finden innerhalb der EZG statt. | Ziel der vorliegenden Studie (Teil eines größeren Projekts zum Zweinutzungshuhn) war eine kombinierte Stations- und Feldprüfung mit Bezug auf die Leistungen der männlichen Tiere. Neben den Leistungsparametern wurden etliche Tierschutzindikatoren erhoben, da die Tiergerechtheit für den Ökolandbau eine große Bedeutung hat. Die Herkunft Bresse hatte die besten Mast- und Schlachtleistungen, die Tiere wurden aber bzgl des Gefieders schlechter bewertet und waren weniger aktiv. |

| Regarding access to breeding material for laying hens to organic egg production the following can be concluded: The breeding material available is genetically adapted to the cage systems. This cage adapted material has a shortcoming regarding behaviour in larger flocks that manifest in: too high tendency to feather pecking and cannibalism, and, independent of flock size, also to many mislaid eggs. Experiments has shown that feather pecking, cannibalism and nesting behaviour can be improved by selection. A search for alternative breeds/hybrids has not yet given the ideal "Organic hen".
