CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive and aromatic rice line derived from a cross between PSBRc54 and IR22. The single cross hybridization was made in 2006 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2007-2008. The line CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 110 cm height on transplanting and 105 cm height on germinated seed broadcasting; 117 days maturity on transplanting and 106 days maturity on germinated seed broadcasting. Abstract The cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp) is of social and economic importance in developing countries. There are several factors that lead to low cowpea yields in tropical regions, such as pests and low technological development. This study aimed to identify and quantify losses in the critical component of production, and the key loss factors for three cowpea varieties (buttermilk, milk, and vinegar) grown in Santarém, Brazil, and inoculated or not with Bradyrhizobium japonicum. O objetivo do trabalho foi conhecer algumas características biométricas, a produtividade e a renda bruta de quatro clones de taro cultivados em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico de textura argilosa. Foram estudados os clones Macaquinho, Japonês, Chinês e Cascudo, no delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com seis repetições. As plantas dos taros Chinês e Cascudo apresentaram as maiores altura e massa fresca de folhas Os valores de diâmetro e comprimento dos RM, do diâmetro dos RF comerciais e do comprimento dos RF não-comerciais e as porcentagens de massas seca de folhas, RM e RF variaram entre clones. During the revision of South American species of Gutierrezia (Asteraceae, Astereae) taxonomic novelties were established: (1) two new varieties were described, Gutierrezia mandonii var. anomala from northwestern Argentina, and Gutierrezia isernii var. nivea from central and western Argentina; and (2) the species Gutierrezia pulviniformis was included as a new synonym of Gutierrezia spathulata.

Roots and shoots from seedlings of 29 coffee genotypes were studied to better characterize the entries from the Coffea germplasm bank of the Instituto Agronômico (IAC), Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brasil. The varieties were seeded in a randomized complete block design with 6 replications and 10 plants per plot. The characters evaluated were: plant (PL), shoot (SL) and root (RL) length; total plant (PDM), shoot (SDM), root (RDM) and lateral root (LRDM) dry matter. A lateral root index (LRI) and shoot root dry matter (SRDM = SDM/RDM) and length ratios; (SRL = SL/RL) were calculated.
