Floral pipe: length in Petunia x hybrida heredability, number of genes and the interaction of the date with the character JBAG
Fatta,N.; Vazquez,M.; García,N.; Mascarini,A.; Grigioni,G..
Petunia x hybrida, a floral summer of a economical importance in Buenos Aires, is nowadays produced with imported seed. The research presented is focused on the study of the feasibility to obtain locally competitive seed. The length of the floral pipe is a relevant character so the assay was designed in order to estimate the heredability, the number of genes intervener and the interactions with the date. The assay began with a F1 purchased from United States. In 2003, the F1 and F2 were sowed,739 individuals of F2 were placed in pots in three dates: 12/6, 26/6 and 8/7/2003 that were considered as blocks I, II and III respectively in a completely randomized design. It was assumed that the homocigotas would be situated in the tales of the F2 distribution,...

Bovine μ-calpain (CAPN1) gene polymorphisms in Brangus and Brahman bulls JBAG
Soria,LA; Corva,PM; Huguet,MJ; Miño,S; Miquel,MC.
The bovine CAPN1 gene encodes the large subunit of μ-calpain, which is thought to be one of the most important enzymes involved in postmortem beef tenderization. Three SNPs in CAPN1 (SNP 316, SNP 530 and SNP 4751) have been associated with beef tenderness in different beef cattle breeds. The objective of this work was to implement genotyping strategies for CAPN1 markers as part of a project pursuing the identifi cation and validation of molecular markers associated with bovine meat quality and composition. Three PCR-RFLP methods were designed to determine genotypes of 64 bulls (11 Angus, 43 Brangus and 10 Brahman). Unexpected patterns resulting from the PCR-RFLP analysis at SNP 316 and SNP 530 were resolved by cloning and sequencing and lead to...

Genotoxic effect of high nitrate water consumption in men and woman from northern Mar del plata, Argentina JBAG
Poli,M.N; López Miranda,L.A; Fernández Iriarte,P.J; Zanier,G.J; Iúdica,C.E.
Previous research has shown connections between the exposure to different agents and mutations in germinal and somatic cells. One of such agents, nitrate (NO3), can be potentially genotoxic for individuals who drink high nitrate well water, and may cause a subsequent impact on their health and on the whole ecosystem. The aim of this research was to conduct genotoxicity assays in somatic cells from people living in the northern area of Mar del Plata city, Argentina. The purpose of these experiments was, in turn, to establish the possible relationships between mutagenic effects and high nitrate water consumption. To this end, different diagnostic tests were carried out to detect potential genetic and/or chromosomal alterations. A non-exposed population equal...

Genetic structure and demographic history of striped weakfish Cynoscion guatucupa (sciaenidae) from the southwestern atlantic JBAG
Alonso,M.P; Fernández Iriarte,P.J.
In South America, the Pleistocene was characterized by important environmental changes related to glacial cycles, which had significant effects on the evolutionary history of several marine species. To evaluate the pattern of demographic history and the genetic structure of striped weakfish Cynoscion guatucupa, a 401 bp fragment of the mitochondrial Cytochrome b gene was sequenced from 92 individuals from three coastal areas in Argentina and one in Brazil in the southwestern Atlantic. Haplotype diversity was high, whereas nucleotide diversity was low among all sampling sites. The star-like pattern was not phylogeographically structured, in agreement with the AMOVA analysis. The Fu’s test was negative and highly significant whereas the mismatch...

Introgression of cultivated sunflower in exotic Helianthus petiolaris populations JBAG
Gutiérrez,A; Cantamutto,M; Poverene,M.
Cultivated sunflower Helianthus annuus and the wild exotic H. petiolaris are sympatric species in an extensive region of central Argentina. Both species are sexually compatible, they overlap their flowering time and share pollinators in the region. Although there are important barriers to introgression between them, interspecific hybrids are occasionally found in contact zones. We present evidences of crop introgression in H. petiolaris populations under natural conditions and controlled and semi-controlled crosses in the experimental field using morphological traits. If crop genes persist in subsequent generations after hybridization, it could then be possible to find crop morphological traits and molecular markers in hybrid offsprings. Plants of H....

Caracterización de la variabilidad genética en germoplasma de Melilotus albus mediante marcadores moleculares ISSR y SSR JBAG
Tomas,P.A; Rivero,M.N; Tomás,M.A.

Premoli,A. C.; Acosta,M. C.; Mathiasen,P; Quiroga,M. P.; Souto,C. P.
Introgresion of heterotic segment in an inbred line of maize (Zea mays L.) JBAG
Salerno,Juan Carlos; Kandus,Mariana; Boggio Ronceros,R.; Almorza,David.
In order to increase the efficiency in the production of maize hybrids seeds it is necessary high grain yield with a relative low cost of production. It needs an expansion of the basic knowledge of the heredity of the characters that may be developing new breeding technique. The balanced lethal system (BLS) permit to study the relative contribution of different chromosome segments to hybrid vigour due to the heterocigozity of certain chromosome segments while the rest of the genome go to homocigozity for continuous selfing . In this way, theses segments can be transfer to inbreed lines in order to increase the grain yield and tassel size with pollen production. The objective of this work was to transfer heterotic segments of a line regulated by a balanced...
