Dental Non-Metric Traits in a Pre-Conquest Sample "Calchaquí" From Argentina, South America International Journal of Morphology
Bollini,Gabriel A; Rodríguez-Flórez,Carlos David; Colantonio,Sonia E.
The present study was carried out with a Calchaquí human Pre-Conquest sample from Northwest of Argentina, with the aim of exploring the dental morphology patterns in this population. This study was carried out by means of a macroscopic analysis in permanent dentitions of 7 skulls. 40 dental non-mtetric traits were recorded using the ASU Dental Anthropology System. Percentages >70% was found only in 4 traits. Calchaquí sample studied here is near to these values in shovel shape expression, but the results of this study suggest that a Sinodont pattern is no clear for this sample. To conclude, the present investigation provides additional, insightful elements for a description of biological factors in the process of dental morphologic diversification...

Unusual Branching Pattern of External Iliac Artery: Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Ranganath,Vallabhajosyula; Gayathri,T.
During the routine dissection, a rare anomaly was observed in left lower limb of a female cadaver. The external iliac artery continued as femoral artery, branched on lateral side as the lateral circumflex femoral artery and on medial side as profunda femoris artery. On tracing the lateral circumflex femoral artery, the ascending branch towards the spinous anastomosis was very thin and coursed behind the rectus femoris muscle. The transverse and descending branches were not observed, however, the artery coursed along the vastus lateralis towards the knee. The femoral artery had its normal course and continued as popliteal artery. The profunda femoris artery originated from the medial side of the external iliac artery, initially superficial to the femoral...

The First Metacarpal is the Thumb First Phalange: EvoDevo Implications International Journal of Morphology
Valenzuela,Carlos, Y; Berríos-Loyola,R; Canals,M.
We examined the status of the first metacarpal bone whose shape, fetal and post-natal development correspond to those of the thumb proximal phalanx. Galen already described this, circa 170 CE. Our radiographic data confirm that the pre-axial (radial or anterior) side of the hand matures, later than the post-axial (ulnar or posterior) side, both, pre- and post-natally. A new perspective on thumb primate and human ontogeny is discussed and comparative observations on the Evolutionary Development (EvoDevo) of the thumb and the first toe are proposed along with a nomenclature honoring Galen's original proposition.

Yuan,Guoqiang; Pan,Yawen; Li,Haiyan; Wang,Jianlin.
Vascular endothelium play an essential role in regulating endothelial functions by maintaining normal vascular tone, modulating hemostasis, and preventing thromobogenesis. The aim of present study was to reveal ultrastructure features of coronary artery endothelium in Bactrian Camels by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) technology. The results showed that the endothelial cells distribute along the direction of blood flow. Their morphology and protuberant degree towards luminal surface vary for different parts of the coronary artery. The luminal surface of a.c oronaria sinistra and a. coronaria dextra was covered by impaired and intact endothelium, respectively. Platelets and leukocytes sticking to the endothelium were found.

Micro Hardness of Dental Tissues Influenced by Administration of Aspirin During Pregnancy International Journal of Morphology
Shakila,Nazir; Ali,Ashraf; Zaidi,Shoaib.
The study is associated with the effect of aspirin (Acetyl Salicylic Acid) on the microhardness of mineralized tissues of the offspring's teeth, in response to the ingestion of the drug during pregnancy. Aspirin is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic medicine, for symptomatic treatment. Misuse of this drug during pregnancy may instigate developmental defects in offspring. An experimental control study was designed, in which female rabbits were taken as representative mammalian models and treated with aspirin during pregnancy. Their offspring's teeth were used to assess the microhardness of dental tissues. The rabbits were alienated into two groups, treated and control, consisting of seven rabbits in each set (n= 7). Microhardness was evaluated in three...
