Comics for Laypeople Interested in Plastination International Journal of Morphology
Chung,Beom Sun; Sui,Hong-Jin; Chung,Min Suk.
Exhibitions of plastinated specimens are popular around the world, but most people are not aware of the basics of plastination process because they are not interested in reading the related writings. Comics are an attractive medium and could solve this problem. The objective of this study was to enhance public comprehension of plastination using comics. Three topics were selected for the comics: the traditional ways to preserve dissected cadaver specimens, the plastination technique used to resolve the problems of the traditional ways, and the public display of the plastinated specimens. The 67 comic frames were drawn in simple style. The comics were available online (anatomy.co.kr) free of charge. The original files of the comics will be provided to those...

Complete Ossification of the Superior Transverse Scapular Ligament in an Turkish Male Adult International Journal of Morphology
Büyükmumcu,M; Seker,M; Ozbek,O; Akin,D; Koc,O; Aydin,A. D; Salbacak,A.
Scapula has three margins and angles and located posterolateral of thorax. One of the anatomical structures of scapula is suprascapular notch located medial to coracoid process base. Suprascapular notch can be seen in different shapes and depths. Suprascapular notch is surrounded by transverse scapular ligament which is a short and strong ligament. Suprascapular notch creates an osteofibrosis passage with this structure within suprascapular nerve passes. It has been reported that this osteofibrosis structure can intirely or partially ossify. All lesions of nerves occured in course as result of exposure to compression, tension and bending are called entrapment neuropathy. Like other peripheral nerves, suprascapular nerve can be exposed to compression while...

Biocompatibility of Human Auricular Chondrocytes Cultured onto a Chitosan/Polyvynil Alcohol/Epichlorohydrin-Based Hydrogel for Tissue Engineering Application International Journal of Morphology
Melgarejo-Ramírez,Yaaziel; Sánchez-Sánchez,Roberto; García-Carvajal,Zaira; García-López,Julieta; Gutiérrez-Gómez,Claudia; Luna-Barcenas,Gabriel; Ibarra,Clemente; Velasquillo,Cristina.
Tissue engineering (TE) has become an alternative for auricular reconstruction based on the combination of cells, molecular signals and biomaterials. Scaffolds are biomaterials that provide structural support for cell attachment and subsequent tissue development. Ideally, a scaffold should have characteristics such as biocompatibility and bioactivity to adequate support cell functions. Our purpose was to evaluate biocompatibility of microtic auricular chondrocytes seeded onto a chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol-epichlorohydrin (CS-PVA-ECH) hydrogel to propose this material as a scaffold for tissue engineering application. After being cultured onto CS-PVA-ECH hydrogels, auricular chondrocytes viability was up to 81%. SEM analysis showed cell attachment and...

Karau Bundi,P; Ogeng´o,J. A; Hassanali,J; Odula,P. O.
Atlas bridges, the bony outgrowths over the third segment of the vertebral artery are associated with compression of the artery and nerves. There are limited studies comparing morphometry of the complete atlas bridges and that of the ipsilateral transverse foramen. Bilateral and gender differences in the morphometry of the complete bridges remain relatively unexplored. One hundred and two atlas vertebrae (49 male and 53 female) obtained from the Osteology Department of the National Museums of Kenya were used for this study. The presence of complete posterior atlas bridge (retroarticular canal) and lateral bridge (supratransverse foramen) was noted. Measurements were taken for the diameters of foramina, and the ipsilateral transverse foramina and their...

Rostrofacial Indices of the Nigerian Local Dog: Implications in Veterinary Oral and Maxillo-facial Anaesthesiology of the Dolichocephalic Canine Breed International Journal of Morphology
Igado,Olumayowa Olawumi.
There has been a recent increase in the use of trained dogs in animal-assisted therapy programmes. This morphological study uses the Nigerian local dog as a prototype dolichocephalic to determine rostrofacial parameters which are of clinical and anesthesiological importance in veterinary oral surgery and intervention. Sixteen Nigerian local dog skulls of both sexes (seven males and nine females) were used. The females were observed to have higher values for most of the parameters measured. Statistically significant difference (P<0.05) was only observed in one parameter, distance between the mandibular foramen and the caudal border of the mandible, with the female value being higher. The length of the mandible from the most rostral point of the dental...

ANÁLISIS MORFOMÉTRICO Y ULTRAESTRUCTURAL DE COMPONENTES ASOCIADOS A SÍNTESIS PROTEICA EN CÉLULAS MAMARIAS NORMALES Y TRANSFORMADAS International Journal of Morphology
Cornejo U,Ricardo.

Dextrocardia and Situs Inversus Totalis in a Nigerian Cadaver: A Case Report of Rare Anomaly International Journal of Morphology
Ofusori,David A; Okwuonu,Christina U; Ude,Raymond A; Adesanya,Olamide A.
This report describes an adult male cadaver with dextrocardia and situs inversus totalis in a Nigerian cadaver. The photographic illustrations revealed transposition of some of the visceral organs such that the stomach and spleen were located on the right and the liver and gall bladder on the left. Also, the left lung was tri-lobed while the right was uni-lobed. The heart was flattened and flipped to the right thus, transposing the great vessels. The report showed that dextrocardia and situs inversus exists amongst Nigerians and possibly Africans and therefore wish to recommend early medical examination since patients with this condition are unaware of their unusual anatomy until they seek medical attention for an unrelated condition. Early detection may...
