Cinnabarin synthesis by Pycnoporus sanguineus strains and antimicrobial activity against bacteria from food products Rev. Microbiol.

Among three strains of Pycnoporus sanguineus, MIP 89007 produced more cinnabarin than MIP 95001 and MIP 95002. The antimicrobial activity of cinnabarin was tested against 11 species of bacteria isolated from food. Bacillus cereus and Leuconostoc plantarum were the most sensitive to cinnabarin, being inhibited by 0.0625 mg/ml. Klebsiella pneumoniae was the least sensitive (>4.0 mg/ml).

MICROBIAL COUNTS OF DARK RED LATOSOL SAMPLES STORED AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES Rev. Microbiol.

The number of colony forming units (CFU) of different groups of bacteria and fungi in samples stored at temperatures of 5 to -12oC for 0-32 weeks was evaluated. The number of CFU obtained after the different periods of storage of red latossol soil was compared with the number of colonies obtained immediately after removal of soil samples (time zero). The number of total bacteria and actinomycetes in the samples remained practically unchanged throughout the storage period. The number of Gram-negative bacteria decreased by as much as 69% compared to control, while the number of Bacillus spp and of fungi increased 1.9 to 4.9 times starting from the 12th week in samples stored at 5oC. Sugar cane silages are characterized by extensive yeast activity, alcohol production and great dry matter - DM - losses. Better knowledge of the fermentation process is fundamental to the development of efficient ensilage techniques for this forage. This study evaluates temporal changes in chemical composition, DM losses and epiphytic microflora in sugar cane silage. Mature sugar cane, variety RB835486 (12 months of vegetative growth), was hand harvested, processed in a stationary chopper and ensiled in 20-L plastic buckets provided with valves for gas release and a device for effluent collection. Recovery of soil microbiological properties in a degraded area planted with Corymbia citriodora and Leucaena leucocephala Scientia Agricola

The influence of reforestation was evaluated during two season periods (February and October) in sites planted with Corymbia citriodora and Leucaena_leucocephala through microorganism counts (bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, and nitrite oxidizers) and microbial activity (respiratory and urease activities). An Atlantic forest and a bare soil site were used as controls. The general trends of the variables in the different soils were: Atlantic forest or L. leucocephala > C. citriodora > bare soil. Fermentative and microbiological profile of marandu-grass ensiled with citrus pulp pellets Scientia Agricola

High-wet roughages with low content of soluble carbohydrates, such as tropical grasses, should be inappropriate for producing silages of adequate quality. This study aimed to evaluate the fermentative and microbiological profiles of Marandu-grass ensilaged with pelleted citric pulp (PCP). Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst ex. A. Rich) Stapf cv. Marandu with 58 days of vegetative growth was harvested for producing experimental silages in PVC silos provided with Bünsen valves and density capacity of 900 kg m-3. การแยกเชื้อและลักษณะของเชื้อ Azospirillum จากรากข้าว Thai Agricultural

Azospirillum is consider to be plant-growth promoting bacteria (PGPR) associated with rice and stimulate plant growth by promoting nutrition by the process of biological nitrogen fixation. The aim of this study was to isolate and characterise of Azospirillum from root rice varieties. The morphology, physiology and biochemistry properties of the bacteria were tested. The result showed that the bacterial isolates of Azospirillum from three rice varieties; Khao Dawk Mali 105, Sew Mae Jan and RD 6 were Azospirillum brasilense and Azospirillum amazonense. The combined properties of the two species were discussed to be used for beneficial application of microbial fertilizer. 

The antibacterial activity of propolis produced throughout the year by different methods of collection (‘intelligent’ collector of propolis - ICP; plastic screen - PC; conventional scraping - CS) on Staphylococcos aureus and Escherichia coli is investigated. Propolis extract and sodium monensin on ruminal fermentation and hematological parameters in sheep Animal Sciences

This study evaluated the effects of different concentrations of 30% propolis ethanol extract (PEE) and sodium monensin on the intake of dry matter, nutrient digestibility and ruminal fermentation and hematological parameters in sheep. Six adult castrated male sheep fistulated in the rumen were assigned to a 6 x 6 Latin square design. The addition of PEE or sodium monensin to the diet did not change the digestibility coefficients of dry matter (79.4%), crude protein (77.0%), neutral detergent fiber (76.1%), acid detergent fiber (69.7%), hemicellulose (80.9%), and organic matter (79.4%). Antibacterial activity of different types of snake venom from the Viperidae family against Staphylococcus aureus Biological Sciences

Toxins and venoms produced by living organisms have exhibited a variety of biological activities against microorganisms. In this study, we tested seven snake venoms from the family Viperidae for antibacterial activity and the activities of reversal of antibiotic resistance and inhibition of biofilm formation against 22 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus. Bothrops moojeni venom exhibited anti staphylococcal activity with the lowest mean value of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Moreover, reversal of antibiotic resistance was observed for combinations of B. moojeni venom (½ x MIC) and norfloxacin or ampicillin (both ½ x MIC) for 86.4% and 50% of the isolates, respectively. Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the production of lipolytic complexes, produced by microorganisms isolated from a biological treatment system of effluents from a hotel. To select the best lipolytic microorganism for use in biotechnological processes, we tested 45 bacterial isolates recovered from the raw effluent of the hotel’s restaurant waste tank. Lipase production was assayed in culture medium supplemented with olive oil and rhodamine B, incubated at 25 °C and 30 °C for 24 h - 48 h. Results showed 22 isolates lipase producers. The spore production "in vitro" of 43 combinations of agroindustrial by-products (cheese whey, silkworm flour, soybean protein and foder yeast) was evaluated. All media tested showed to be suitable for Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki Berliner production and the concentration of spores obtained in these media varied from 10(6) to 10(9) spores/ml.
