| The aim of the project was to compare flora and insect fauna of organic and conventional hedgerows and to study whether the drift of herbicides into hedgerows alone or in combination with differences in fertiliser application may explain any differences. The project consequently consisted of two parts, viz. collection of flora and insect data in existing hedgerows (multi-row hedgerows, age 10-15 years) on two soil types and an experiment in which a sown grassland vegetation was treated with combinations of glyphosate (0-25% label rate) and nitrogen (0-100 kg N/ha/year) as a simulation of the most important agricultural conditions having an effect on flora and insect fauna in different agricultural systems. | I den økologiske fjerkræ- og svineproduktion er forsyning med tilstrækkeligt af de essentielle aminosyrer i foder et stigende problem, da foderet ifølge lovkravene skal indeholde en meget stor andel økologisk dyrkede råvarer. Der må ikke tilsættes syntetiske aminosyrer til økologisk foder, der fra 2012 skal være baseret på 100% økologiske råvarer. Selvom både den økologiske og den kommercielle husdyrproduktion er selvforsynende med nogle råvarer, er det stadig nødvendigt at importere en stor andel proteinråvarer for at tilgodese dyrenes behov for protein- og især aminosyrer. | Selv om der de sidste fire år har været en kraftig stigning i den økologiske svineproduktion i Danmark, udgør den økologiske slagtesvineproduktion mindre end 0,5% af den totale slagtesvineproduktion, og erfaringsgrundlaget for gennemførelsen af den økologiske svineproduktion er derfor spinkelt. I mange tilfælde er svineproduktionen indrettet således, at søerne holdes på friland, mens slagtesvinene året rundt opstaldes i stalde med tilhørende udearealer, og det er for sådanne systemer, at videngrundlaget er bedst. |

| De økologiske kornpriser i 2008 og 2009 gjorde det relevant at kigge på andre afgrøder, der har potentiale for at hæve bundlinjen. Sidste år påbegyndte vi derfor i samarbejde med Københavns Universitet et demonstrationsprojekt med afgrøden quinoa. Både i 2009 og 2010 blev afgrøden afprøvet på tre forskellige lokaliteter – lokaliteten på Bornholm blev dog skiftet ud med en lokalitet ved Ballerup. |

| Since 1993, the Swiss law and Ordinance on Direct Payments for Agriculture (ODP) enables farmers to be compensated for ecological measures. A catalogue lists different possible measures which can be implemented at farm level both to create space for nature and biodiversity and to generate an alternative income for farmers. | Livestock play an important part in food systems. They are a source of high quality protein and other nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals; and raising livestock is a way of utilizing otherwise unusable areas and resources for food production – namely grasslands, by-products of food production, and organic waste. Livestock also play a significant role in on-farm and regional nutrient cycles, and they provide people with incomes, assets and livelihoods. However, over the last 50 years we have seen a more than fourfold increase in global meat and egg production, and milk production has more than doubled. At the same time, there was just a twofold growth in the global human population (FAOSTAT, 2015). |

| Vårhvede og vårbyg er hver for sig velkendte arter i det økologiske sædskifte, hvor vårhvede normalt dyrkes til konsum og vårbyg i stor udstrækning til foder. I sortsafprøvningerne lykkes det ofte, at opnå udbytter på over 50 hkg/ha, hvorimod udbyttet ude på bedrifterne ligger noget lavere. Særligt vårhvede ligger i praksis langt under 50 hkg/ha. I praksis er det derfor kun en mindre del af sorternes fulde udbyttepotentiale der udnyttes, hvorfor det er interessant at undersøge hvilke praktiske tiltag der kan hæve udbytterne. |
