Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities in the rhizosphere of a continuous cropping soybean system at the seedling stage BJM
Cui,Jiaqi; Bai,Li; Liu,Xiaorui; Jie,Weiguang; Cai,Baiyan.
Abstract Arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) fungi play a crucial role in the growth of soybean; however, the planting system employed is thought to have an effect on AM fungal communities in the rhizosphere. This study was performed to explore the influence of continuous soybean cropping on the diversity of Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, and to identify the dominant AM fungus during the seedling stage. Three soybean cultivars were planted under two and three years continuous cropping, respectively. The diversity of AM fungi in the rhizosphere soil at the seedling stage was subsequently analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The results showed that an increase in cropping years improved the colonization...

Low Genetic Diversity Among Garlic (Allium sativum L.) Accessions Detected Using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Paredes C,Mario; Becerra V,Viviana; González A,María I.
Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is a species of vegetative propagation, showing high morphological diversity. Besides, its clones have specific adaptations to different agroclimatic regions. The objective of this study was to determine the genetic diversity of 65 garlic clones collected in Chile and introduced from different countries, by using RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA). Fourty random primers of 10 mers generated a total of 398 bands with an 87% of polymorphism. Each primer amplified between two and 20 bands. The size of the fragments obtained fluctuated between 3200 and 369 bp. The results showed that the clones analyzed had a genetic similarity rate of 94%. In addition, 70% of them were clustered in one major group. However, in spite of that...

Genetic divergence of parents and F2 segregation in grain Amaranths Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Milan Pandey,Ram.
Twenty six accessions of grain Amaranths (Amaranthus hypochondriacus), including both indigenous and exotic introductions, were evaluated in the rabi season (winter crop, November-March). Based on D² analysis, the accessions were grouped into eleven clusters. Clusters I, II, and III had seven, four, and three accessions, respectively; clusters VII, VIII, IX and X had only one accession in each case. The accession in cluster V had the greatest divergence, closely followed by those of clusters IV and I. The maximum and minimum divergences were revealed between clusters VIII and XI and between II and VIL respectively. The pattern of clustering did not show any relationship with geographic origin. In a study of pattern of F2 segregation in 25 crosses involving...

Terra,Tatiana de Freitas; Wiethölter,Paula; Almeida,Cícero Carlos de Souza; Silva,Sérgio Delmar dos Anjos e; Bered,Fernanda; Sereno,Maria Jane Cruz de Melo; Barbosa Neto,José Fernandes.
Wild species are important sources of genetic variability and may be exploited by breeding programs. Crosses between teosinte and maize occur freely and teosinte serves as genetic source of agronomic traits for introduction in maize. The objective of this study was to estimate genetic variability among and within maize and teosinte populations (Zea mays mexicana). Two sweet maize populations (BR400 and BR402), two common maize populations (Suwan and Pampa) and one teosinte population were analyzed using microsatellites markers. Results indicated that 64,5% of the variation was detected within the populations, suggesting the possibility of obtaining genetic progress by selection within each population. The analysis with 25 microsatellites loci enabled the...

Genetics of two marine shrimp hatcheries of the Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) in Pernambuco, Brazil Ciência Rural
Lima,Ana Patrícia Souza de; Silva,Suzianny Maria Bezerra Cabral da; Oliveira,Karine Kelly Cavalcanti; Maggioni,Rodrigo; Coimbra,Maria Raquel Moura.
The shrimp industry has grown significantly over the past 10 years in Brazil, especially the farmed production of the exotic Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. In 2004, this industry was marked by a productivity crisis, which stirred interest towards genetic improvement of shrimp stocks. Shrimp breeders importation was banned in Brazil by a govern Normative Instruction in 1997, as a sanitary precaution. Since then, broodstock replacement in hatcheries has been based on domestic stocks, raising concerns on the decline of genetic diversity and if the existing diversity would allow effective genetic improvement programs. In the present research, genetic parameters such as number of alleles, effective allele number, expected and observed...

Phenotypic and molecular characterization of corn hybrids released from 1980 to 2000 Ciência Rural
Bispo,Noryam Bervian; Tessele,Carolina; Barbosa Neto,José Fernandes.
Genetic variability is the basis of plant breeding. In corn, a large and diverse genetic pool permits manipulation of different genotypes, but the genetic diversity of tropical germplasm has been little studied. With the objective of analyzing the amplitude of the genetic variability in 15 hybrids released in different periods by three different seed companies, phenotypic and molecular characterization was carried out in three environments and at two plant densities. The phenotypic assessment showed great similarity among the hybrids, suggesting that the breeding programs have developed genotypes with similar phenotypic traits. The dendogram of the molecular analysis showed clustering according with the different companies suggesting that each corn...
