Some time ago I described in Blumea (5) a plant collection in book-form, collected by Hermann in Ceylon. This collection consists of two large volumes, each containing a number of dried specimens. Besides these two volumes, the Rijksherbarium is in the possession of a third one of the same size and with a similar binding, bearing on its back the title in golden characters on a darker ground: Herb: Viv: Promont. Bonae Spei Vol: I. When I saw the specimens of this volume for the first time, it struck me that they did not show the peculiar type of plants from the Cape region. A somewhat closer examination lead me to the supposition, that I had to do with plants from South America. I was strengthened in that opinion by the fact that many of the vernacular... |

Two species of Biscutella, viz. B. auriculata L. and B. didyma L. are known as aliens in the Netherlands. They can be distinguished from each other as follows: 1. Petals c. 10—15 mm long, with a long claw. Outer sepals saccate at the base. Silicula not emarginate at the apex, but narrowed into the style .............. 1. B. auriculata L. 1’. Petals c. 3—5 mm long, with a very short claw. Outer sepals not saccate. Silicula emarginate at the apex .............................. 2. B. didyma L. Of B. didyma both var. leiocarpa (DC.) Halacsy (glabrous fruits) and var. ciliata (DC.) Halacsy (fruits with ciliate margins and sometimes with short hairs on the valves) have been found. |

At the end of the previous number of “Blumea” could just be inserted the death notice of one of the honorary collaborators of the Rijksherbarium, Dr Ir A. W. Kloos, who passed away in his home at Dordrecht on June 3rd, 1952. A more detailed obituary may follow here. Abraham Willem Kloos was born at Wormerveer on April 10th, 1880. At West-Knollendam he attended his father’s school, afterwards went to the secondary school at Zaandam, and, in 1903, he took his degree as a civil engineer at Delft. |

The genus Chloris Sw. is represented in the Netherlands by 4 adventitious species, viz. C. virgata Sw., C. truncata R. Br., C. divaricata R. Br., and C. pycnothrix Trin. Descriptions of these species and figures of their florets are given. The four species may be distinguished with the aid of the following key: 1. Lemma of the bisexual floret in the upper part with c. 2-3 mm long hairs on the margin; hairs distinctly exceeding the top of the lemma. Leaves gradually narrowed into the acute apex ................................... 1. C. virgata 1’. Lemma of the bisexual floret nearly glabrous, or shortly hairy with hairs not exceeding the top of the lemma. Leaves abruptly narrowed into the obtuse or obtusish apex. 2. This is the second contribution to a series of papers dealing with the Convolvulaceae of Malaysia (Malay Peninsula and Archipelago, Philippine Islands and New Guinea). The genera worked out here belong to the tribe Convolvuleae; they are numbered VIII—XV. Genus VII, Erycibe, belonging to the Erycibeae shall be treated afterwards in a special monograph. With regard to the geographic arrangement of the specimens mentioned, some alterations had to be introduced due to the new limitation of the residencies in the island of Java. The names and limits of these residencies are now brought into line with the data of the ”Atlas van Tropisch Nederland“ ²). |

Hallier ²) subdivided the Convolvulaceae into two groups, viz. the Psiloconiae, with smooth pollen grains, and the Echinoconiae with spinose ones. The genera of the Psiloconiae occurring in Malaysia have been dealt with in parts I and II of the present paper, with exception of the genus Erycibe, which shall be treated in a special monograph. The group of Echinoconiae contains two tribes, viz. 1. Ipomoeeae and 2. Argyreieae, both represented in Malaysia. The genus Ipomoea belongs to the Ipomoeeae. |

The list of new localities of rare species and interesting records of more common species found in the Netherlands mainly during 1978, has been subdivided into three categories: A. Netherlands species; B. Adventitious species; C. Species escaped from cultivation. Category A includes the species — also naturalised ones — belonging to the Netherlands flora, as established by the Floristic Council in 1975 and inserted in the Standard List of the Netherlands Flora 1975 (ARNOLDS & VAN DER MEIJDEN, 1976). In list A comments have been added, where necessary; adventitious records of Netherlands species are indicated with adv., escapes from cultivation with verw. The names of taxa new for the Netherlands, are in bold type. |
