Stiasny, G.; Groenewegen, J.A.W..

A Revision Of The Genus Sarcophyton Lesson (Octocorallia, Alcyonacea) Naturalis
Verseveldt, J..
The author refers 35 valid species to the genus Sarcophyton. The holotypes of nearly all species could be examined; of only three species (S. elegans, S. glaucum, and S. latum) their depository is unknown. The holotypes of eight species were described earlier by the present author, in four cases in co-operation with other authors; the reader is referred to the literature given in the list of valid species. Among the species described in the present paper there is a new one: S. buitendijki. A list of invalid taxa is added. Four keys may help with the identification of the corals.

Fossil brachiopods from the Pleistocene of the Antilles Naturalis
Harper, D.A.T.; Donovan, S.K..
Pleistocene brachiopods are poorly known from the Antillean region, but are locally common in forereef deposits of Jamaica (lower Pleistocene Manchioneal Formation) and Barbados (Coral Rock). Of the four species known, two are new. Lacazella sp. cf. L. caribbeanensis Cooper, an encrusting thecideidean, is known from only three valves. Other species are terebratulides. Tichosina inconstanta sp. nov. is a large, ventribiconvex Tichosina species of elongate oval to tear-drop shaped outline, variably uniplicate with a pedicle foramen of moderate diameter. It differs from the similar Tichosina? bartletti (Dall) in having a larger pedicle foramen and a less-marked plication. Argyrotheca barrettiana (Davidson) is a medium to large, usually transverse Argyrotheca...

Further studies on Octocorallia Naturalis
Verseveldt, J..
INTRODUCTION This paper is to be regarded as a continuation of my previous publication (Verseveldt, 1940 1)). Some three species, sufficient material of which for an anatomical examination was available, had then to remain undiscussed; they are: Semperina rubra Kö11., Anthothela macrocalyx (Nutt.) (= Suberia macrocalyx Nutting (1911) = Semperina macrocalyx (Nutt.) Kukenthal (1919)) and Sibogagorgia weberi Stiasny, which species have been examined by me in the same way as formerly the others. It has become clear to me that the second of the species mentioned cannot be considered as belonging either to the genus Suberia Studer or the genus Semperina Kö11. A close relationship with Anthothela grandiflora (M. Sors) caused me to decide on the name Anthothela...

The genus Sertularella Gray, 1848 (Cnidaria: Hydroida) along the coasts of Galicia (Spain) Naturalis
Ramil, F.; Parapar, J.; Vervoort, W..
Species of the genus Sertularella from the coasts of Galicia (Atlantic coast of Spain) have been studied and 5 species, S. gayi (Lamouroux, 1821), S. polyzonias (Linnaeus, 1758), S. ellisii (Deshayes & MilneEdwards, 1836), S. fusiformis (Hincks, 1861), and S. mediterranea Hartlaub, 1901, are recognized, described, and their synonymy discussed. Notes are added on two species of which the names occur repeatedly in European hydroid literature but that in our opinion belong in the southern Atlantic fauna: S. gaudichaudi (Lamouroux, 1824) and S. picta (Meyen, 1834).

Indonesian sponges of the genus Petrosia Vosmaer (Demospongiae: Haplosclerida) Naturalis
Voogd, N.J. de; Soest, R.W.M. van.
Sponges of the genus Petrosia (Demospongiae: Haplosclerida) are large and characteristic components of many Indonesian reefs. We identify and provide descriptions of seven species of Petrosia collected recently on SW Sulawesi reefs (Eastern Indonesia), two of which are new to science: Petrosia (Petrosia) alfiani spec. nov. and Petrosia (Petrosia) hoeksemai spec. nov. Additional species recorded are Petrosia (Petrosia) lignosa Wilson, 1925, Petrosia (Petrosia) nigricans Lindgren, 1897, Petrosia (Petrosia) plana Wilson, 1925, Petrosia (Strongylophora) corticata (Wilson, 1925) and Petrosia (Strongylophora) strongylata Thiele, 1903. The species are discussed and compared with Petrosia records from other Indonesian and neighbouring Indo-West Pacific areas. We...

Corals from an elevated marl of Talaud (East Indies) Naturalis
Umbgrove, J.H.F..
As a member of the Expedition on board H.M. „Willebrord Snellius" Dr. Ph. H. Kuenen had the opportunity to collect a suite of corals from a marine marl, deposited in an old valley now elevated above sea level, near Mahammanale, on the island Talaud, to the North of Celebes. He kindly entrusted to me the identification of the collection, which is now in the National Museum of Geology at Leiden. The following list shows the 15 species, which could be identified, and their stratigraphical distribution. 1. Flabellum rubrum (Q. et G.), Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, Recent. 2. Flabellum pavoninum Less. var. paripavoninum (Alcock), Recent. 3. Acanthocyathus grayi E.H., Miocene?, Pliocene, Pleistocene, Recent. 4. Caryophyllia spec. (probably the recent species...

Notes on Rhizocephala infesting species of the Anomuran genus Galathea Naturalis
Boschma, H..
During the work of the Ecological Survey of the University of Cape Town a few Crustacea of various groups were collected which proved to be infested with Rhizocephalan parasites. Remarks on one of these, a parasite of Galathea dispersa Bate, are given in the present paper, while notes are added on the data from the literature and on the structure of some other specimens 1). The Rhizocephala occurring as parasites of species of the genus Galathea belong to the genera Triangulus and Lernaeodiscus (family Lernaeodiscidae) or to the genus Galatheascus (family Peltogastridae). Moreover, one species of the genus Sacculina is known as a parasite of a Galathea, while Parthenopea subterranea Kossmann, a species usually infesting Callianassa, has been reported as a...

Biodiversity of shallow-water sponges (Porifera) in Singapore and description of a new species of Forcepia (Poecilosclerida: Coelosphaeridae) Naturalis
Lim, S.-C.; Voogd, N.J. de; Tan, K.-S..
A surprisingly high number of shallow water sponge species (197) were recorded from extensive sampling of natural intertidal and subtidal habitats in Singapore (Southeast Asia) from May 2003 to June 2010. This is in spite of a highly modified coastline that encompasses one of the world’s largest container ports as well as extensive oil refining and bunkering industries. A total of 99 intertidal species was recorded in this study. Of these, 53 species were recorded exclusively from the intertidal zone and only 45 species were found on both intertidal and subtidal habitats, suggesting that tropical intertidal and subtidal sponge assemblages are different and distinct. Furthermore, only a third of the fouling species of sponges from a previous study was...

Verzeichnis der Brachiopoden-Sammlung des Naturhistorischen Reichsmuseums in Leiden Naturalis
Stiasny, G..

Some nomenclatorial corrections to 'Investigations on Stylasteridae (Hydrocorals)' 1942 Naturalis
Broch, H..
When discussing the genus Errina in my paper "Investigations on Stylasteridae (Hydrocorals),, (1942) I arrived at the conclusion held by Hickson (1912) that the species of the genus should be grouped in two, or possibly three, subgenera. It was pointed out that Hickson had erroneously used the designation "the Labiopora group" for the subgenus containing the type species Errina aspera (L.), and accordingly I proposed to name this subgenus Eu-Errina. For the other subgenus, viz., "the Errina group" of Hickson, the type species of which is Errina labiata Moseley, I introduced the name Labiata. A third group, viz., "the Spinipora group" of Hickson, was only casually mentioned by me, as I had no representative of this group at hand. The only species of this...
