Nitrogen fertilization impact on agronomic traits of maize hybrids released at different decades PAB
Sangoi,Luís; Ender,Márcio; Guidolin,Altamir Frederico; Almeida,Milton Luiz de; Konflanz,Valmor Antônio.
Genetic selection of maize hybrids is often conducted using high N rates during the breeding cycle. This procedure may either lead to the release of genotypes that present nitrogen luxury consumption or require a stronger N input to accomplish their yield potential. This work was carried out to evaluate the effects of N rates on grain yield and N use efficiency of hybrids cultivated in different decades in Southern Brazil. The trial was performed in Lages, Santa Catarina State. A split plot design was used. Hybrids Ag 12, Ag 28, Ag 303 and Ag 9012, released during the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, respectively, were evaluated in the main plots. Nitrogen rates equivalent to 0, 50, 100 and 200 kg ha-1 were side-dressed in the split-plots when each hybrid had...

Production and Nutrient Accumulation of Common Bean Cultivars under Competition with Weed Planta Daninha
COELHO,C.G.; DALVI,L.P.; OLIVEIRA,L.S.G.; OLIVEIRA,F.L..
ABSTRACT: Improper management of weeds is one of the causes of low bean yield, as it is very susceptible to interference due to their slow initial growth. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of dayflower on grain yield and nutrient accumulation of bean cultivars. The experiment was carried out in a screened house, in 5 L pots, in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme. Factor 1 corresponded to the presence or absence of weeds, and factor 2 bean cultivars: BRS Pontal, BRS Agreste, BRS Ametista and BRS Estilo. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with five replications. The coexistence of bean and weed was maintained throughout the crop cycle. Chlorophyll content, number of pods per plant, number of grains per plant, nutrients contents (N -...

Sourgrass Resistance Mechanism to the Herbicide Glyphosate Planta Daninha
MELO,M.S.C.; ROCHA,L.J.F.N.; BRUNHARO,C.A.C.G.; NICOLAI,M.; TORNISIELLO,V.L.; NISSEN,S.J.; CHRISTOFFOLETI,P.J..
ABSTRACT: The knowledge on the mechanism that gives a weed resistance to a particular herbicide is essential regarding scientific, academic, and practical aspects because it determines the recommendations for prevention and management of resistance in the field. Studies on the sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) glyphosate resistance mechanism in the literature have not been conclusive. Thus, the aim of this research was to study and evaluate the putative resistance mechanisms whichgives sourgrass biotypes, the ability to survive after glyphosate application. For this, 14C-glyphosate leaf absorption and translocation were compared in the biotypes Matão (R), Campo Florido (MG), Diamantino (MT), and Iracemápolis (S) as a function of the time after its...

Hub-and-Spokes Free-Trade-Agreements in the Presence of Technology Spillovers: An Application to the Western Hemisphere AgEcon
Das, Gouranga Gopal; Andriamananjara, Soamiely.
Using a comparative-static general equilibrium model and in the context of the western hemisphere, this paper compares the economic effects of a "hub-and-spokes (HAS)" type of bilateral trade configuration (with Chile being the hub) with those of a more comprehensive regional FTA (namely, the FTAA). The model is augmented to account for the possibility of technology spillovers and its effective assimilation among participating economies. In particular, absorptive capacity, governance factor, proximity and socio-institutional congruence conjointly determine an economy's capacity to capture the technology that is transmitted from developed spoke US to other regions.

Consumption of ferulic and p-hydroxybenzoic acids by soybean root tips BABT
Silva,Hélio Cândido da; Herrig,Vanessa; Ferrarese,Maria de Lourdes L.; Ferrarese-Filho,Osvaldo.
Depletion method was used to describe how soybean root consumed ferulic and p-hydroxybenzoic acids in nutrient culture. The results showed that excised cultured soybean roots consumed these allelochemicals very rapidly. At concentrations between 0.1 and 1.0 mM, roots consumed 50% or more of ferulic acid after 6-h depletion. Although consumption started only after 3 h, similar behavior was verified with p-hydroxybenzoic acid.
