Análise da volatilidade de preços de produtos agropecuários no Brasil AgEcon
Campos, Kilmer Coelho.
The instability of the producers and investors income coming from price fluctuation is a problem whose characteristics and causes should be thoroughly investigated given the importance of the commodity in the national agribusiness and their losses in terms of profitability, jobs and exchange value to Brazil. Given that, it is used the class of autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models (ARCH and GARCH) to characterize and analyze the volatility of the time series of monthly returns of soy, coffee, corn and fat ox. This analysis shows that these products are marked by having high price fluctuations, in which positive or negative shocks generate impacts in the long run. The sum of the volatility reaction and persistence coefficients showed values...

This study explains the results of trade reforms for a scenario where reduced tariffs for all imported commodities under the Uruguay Round (UR) since 1995. The Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) analysis and input-output data for Iran using a base year, 1991, were applied simulating the short and long-run effects under the UR. It was proposed that 24 per cent and 27 per cent decreases in ad valorem tariffs on imported agricultural and non-agricultural commodities, respectively, could occur in the short run from 1995. The same scenario was simulated in the long run to examine the impact of trade reforms on Iran for the past decade. Three crops results of this scenario were analysed by considering the projections. The results confirm a positive impact on...

A CARGA TRIBUTÁRIA SOBRE OS INSUMOS AGRÍCOLAS UTILIZADOS NA CULTURA DA UVA NO VALE DO SÃO FRANCISCO. AgEcon
Souza, Ana Mary De; Moura, Antonio Fernandes C. De; Britto, Waldenir Sidney Fagundes.

Fuzzy Quantitative Measure on Brand Extension of Agricultural Products AgEcon
Chen, Youxing; Xu, Hui.
Based on the apprehension of the connotation of brand extension, we select five factors to evaluate the brand extension of agricultural products, including the consumers’ attitude towards original brand of agricultural products, relevance between original products and extensive products, association of agricultural brands, difficulties in making the extensive agricultural products, and cultural compatibility of original brand. We also establish the index system of influencing factors for brand extension of agricultural products, and adopt multi-level measure model to empirically analyze the brands A and B. Result shows that the comprehensive measure values of brands A and B are 77.35 and 78.25, respectively, indicating the extension effect evaluation of...

Energy Consumption Requirements of Agricultural Dryers: An Overview CIGR Journal
Nwakuba, Nnaemeka Reginald; ASOEGWU, SABBAS N.; NWAIGWE, KEVIN N..
Artificial dryers promote high-quality dried food products in spite of their considerable energy consumption. This paper presents a review of energy consumption of agricultural dryers in order to ensure optimal dryer design and cost effective dryer operation which yield better quality dried products. From the review, dryer design, type, crop characteristics, and ambient environmental conditions are seen as major factors affecting dryer energy consumption. Energy consumption of different dryers with different products was reported using different empirical expressions and graphical approaches. Results obtained show that microwave dryers have about 70% energy savings when compared to other artificial dryers due to their low energy consumption at higher power...

A review on applications of greenhouse drying and its performance CIGR Journal
Sahdev, Ravinder Kumar; Kumar, Mahesh; Dhingra, Ashwani Kumar.
Limited sources and rising cost of fossil fuels has instigated researchers to look towards renewable energy resources.  Among renewable energy resources, solar energy is required to become indispensable in the future, as it is inexpensive, abundant, inexhaustible, environmental friendly and non-pollutant.  Most of the people living in developing countries are dependent on agriculture.  Agricultural products are dried to increase the storage life, minimize the packaging requirement and reduce the transportation weight.  Solar drying for drying agricultural products is being practiced since long back throughout the world.  Because of its drawbacks, advance technique, i.e. greenhouse drying, is being adopted for drying crops to reduce the drying time and...

Multivariate analysis and neural networks application to price forecasting in the Brazilian agricultural market Ciência Rural
Pinheiro,Carlos Alberto Orge; Senna,Valter de.
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to apply the methodology proposed by PINHEIRO & SENNA (2015) to a set of agricultural products traded in Brazil. The multivariate and nonlinear character of this methodology has shown to be suitable, as compared to the neural network model, since it allows for a better predictive performance. Results obtained in an out-of-sample period, by using the calculated error and statistical test, confirmed this statement. This study will be useful to farmers as price forecasting based on their tendency is relevant.
