Performance and carcass traits of Santa Inês lambs finished with different sources of forage R. Bras. Zootec.
Menezes,Adriana Morato; Louvandini,Helder; Esteves,Geisa Isilda Ferreira; Dalcin,Luciana; Canozzi,Maria Eugênia Andrighetto; Barcellos,Júlio Otávio Jardim; McManus,Concepta.
The objective of this study was to evaluate performance and biometrics of lambs fed different sources of forage. Twenty-four six-month-old Santa Inês female lambs were randomly allocated to four experimental diets and housed in individual stalls. They weighed on average 26.35±0.20 kg. The diets were coast cross hay (HAY), cassava hay (CAS), dehydrated by-product of pea crop (PEA) and saccharin (SAC). The diets were formulated with the same amount of protein and energy with fixed levels of forage (60%) and concentrate (40%). Adaptation to the diet took 7 days, with 45 days on experiment. Weights and biometric measurements were obtained every fortnight and feed intake three times a week. Rights half-carcasses were weighed and sectioned into retail cuts, rib,...

In vitro regeneration and morphogenesis of somatic embryos of cassava Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Vidal,Ádila Melo; Costa,Maria Angélica Pereira de Carvalho; Souza,Antônio da Silva; Almeida,Weliton Antonio Bastos de; Souza,Fernanda Vidigal Duarte.
In this study, the somatic embryogenesis and regeneration of Cigana Preta plants from shoot apices and immature leaves taken from plants cultivated in vitro were examined. To embryo induction the explants were cultivated in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) or 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid (Picloram) at concentrations of 8.0 and 12 mg L-1. To development of embryos two media cultures with different concentration of BAP (D1 or D2) were evaluated. Embryos in the cotyledonary stage were incubated in germination medium containing MS salts and vitamins, 2.0 µM copper sulfate, 2.4 g L-1 of Phytagel® and 1.77 µM BAP. The highest frequency of calluses and the greatest number of embryos per explant were...

Non-hierarchical clustering of Manihot esculenta Crantz germplasm based on quantitative traits Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Oliveira,Eder Jorge de; Aud,Fabiana Ferraz; Morales,Cinara Fernanda Garcia; Oliveira,Saulo Alves Santos de; Santos,Vanderlei da Silva.
ABSTRACT The knowledge of the phenotypic variation of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) germplasm allows the estimative of the genetic variability to support the selection of contrasting genitors. Therefore, the aim of this work was to define homogeneous groups of cassava germplasm based on yield traits, disease resistance and root quality using K-means as a non-hierarchical method. Breeding values estimated by Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (BLUP) were used for the cluster analysis. The number of groups was defined according to the stabilization of the smallest within-group sum of squares. Seventeen clusters were defined to represent the diversity of the germplasm, whose number of accessions ranged from 7 (Group 15) to 69 (Group 9). In general,...

Start-up adjustment of a plug-flow digester for cassava wastewater (manipueira) treatment Scientia Agricola
Ribas,Maria Magdalena Ferreira; Barana,Ana Cláudia.
Manipueira, wastewater of cassava (Manihot esculenta) processing, can be treated by anaerobic biodigestion. To study the start-up process of a plug-flow digester for manipueira treatment, this work consisted of two stages: gradual decrease of the hydraulic retention time (HRT) to the preset time of 4 days or maintaining a fixed HRT of 4 days with gradual increase of the substrate concentration. A digester of 1980 mL capacity was opperated, at constant temperature (32 ± 1º C), with substrate pH corrected between 5.5 and 6.0. The first stage had durations of 16.6; 13.6; 11.6; and 9.6 days and the organic loads were 3.1; 2.0; 2.3; and 2.9 COD L-1 d-1, (chemical oxigen demand) respectively. The second stage was characterized by a fixed HRT (4 days) and organic...

Digestive and functional properties of a partially hydrolyzed cassava solid waste with high insoluble fiber concentration Scientia Agricola
Raupp,Dorivaldo da Silva; Rosa,Danielle Amorim; Marques,Silvia Helena de Paula; Banzatto,David Ariovaldo.
Starch factories generate large amounts of cassava solid waste. A small amount is utilized for animal feed but most of it is discharged with deleterious effects to the envirounment. A edible food with a high content of insoluble dietary fiber (60.9%), named "partially hidrolyzed cassava waste" (PHCW), was prepared from industrial cassava solid waste by an enzymatic process. PHCW or wheat bran (WB) were fed to model rats and both promoted digestive function effects, but PHCW produced the greatest effect. The insoluble fiber constituent from PHCW (and not the soluble fiber), promoted the greatest fecal bulking, fecal weight and defecation frequency in rats, as compared to WB. Such results indicate that the partially hydrolyzed cassava waste presents...

Potential of soils for growing cassava and sugarcane on toposequence of sandstone low hill atKrissana subdistrict, Sikhiu district, Nakhon Ratchasima province was undertaken on four locations, summit slope, upper middle slope, lower middle slope, and footslope of low hill. All four soils were classified as Typic Paleustults. They were deep soils with well drained feature. Groundwater depth at the time of sampling was between 125-200 m where the soil on the middle slope had the shallowest ground water level of 125 m. Their topsoils had brown tostrong brown colours. The colour of subsoils of soil on the summit was red and became yellow with a presence of mottles in soils located on the middle slope to the lowest position of the study area. Physico-chemical...
