As especies frutiferas observadas foram as seguintes: abacate (Persea americana Mill), banana (Musa cavendishii Lambert), cacau (Theobroma cacao L.), caqui (Diospyros kaki L.), coco (Cocos nucifera L.), Figo (Ficus carica L.), goiaba (Psidium guajava L.), garviola (Anona muricata L.), Laranja (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck), mamao (Carica papaya L.), maracuja (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg), nespera (Eriobotrya japonica Lindley),... |

The presence of the red palm mite, Raoiella indica Hirst, is reported for the first time in Brazil. This invasive mite was found in July 2009 infesting coconut palms and bananas in urban areas of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, in northern Brazil. Comments on the possible pathways of R. indica into the country, present and potential impact of its introduction and mitigating measures to prevent or to delay the mite spread in Brazil are presented. |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of two Amblyseius largoensis (Acari: Phytoseiidae) populations in controlling Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae). The treatments were: release of A. largoensis from the island of La Réunion; release of A. largoensis from the state of Roraima, Brazil; and a control, without predator release. Initially, 20 predators were released per plant; three other releases were done at a rate of ten adults per plant, at 46, 135, and 156 days after the first release. The population densities were estimated every 20 days, during six months. Both A. largoensis populations evaluated are not sufficiently efficient to control the R. indica population. |

In commercial corn production, small seed size is discarded from the seed lot and used as the animal feed, resulting in less profit to the seed industry. Therefore, the objective of this research was to increase seed size by seed pelleting methods. In this study, the types of filler pelleting materials and ratio of binder materials were investigated. The experiment was conducted at Seed Quality Test Laboratory of Seed Processing Plant, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University. Small seed size of hybrid corn that retained on grade 14/64” diameter sieve perforations were pelleted with seven different types and ratios of fillers (vermiculite, bentonite, pumice, calcium sulphate, calcium carbonate, charcoal and coconut) with four different types of binders... |

Performance evaluations of three coconut cracking devices was carried out and its results compared with the conventional (hand cracking technique) of hitting on hard surface. The three devices include a punch-split device, an impact-split device and hydraulic press split device which were developed at the Department of Agricultural & Bioenvironmental Engineering Technology, Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu. Each technique was evaluated for output capacity, cracking efficiency, ergonomics, and time required to crack a unit of different grades of coconut. The average cracking efficiency for punch split was 87.09 per cent with a range of 86.76 to 95.00 per cent, impact split efficiency varied from 83.33 to 95.00 per cent with the average of... |

ABSTRACTStem bleeding disease (resinosis) of coconut palm is caused by Thielaviopsis paradoxa and is very important in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. Understanding the epidemiological behavior of the disease is essential for establishing more efficient control strategies. Thus, we characterized the temporal progression and spatial distribution of stem bleeding in a commercial orchard under conditions of natural infection in the area of Neopolis, Sergipe. Three plots with 729 plants each were selected and evaluated every two months for stem bleeding incidence. In the temporal analysis, the monomolecular model gave the best fit to data on disease incidence, as it accurately showed the temporal dynamics of the disease during the experiment period. The spatial... |
