The 1st Session of the JCOMM/IODE Expert Team on Data Management Practices (ETDMP) was held in Oostende, Belgium between 15 and 18 September 2003. The ETDMP members discussed the requirements for end-to-end data management (E2EDM); existing and planned data management mechanisms and practices; cooperation with other programmes and expert teams; the strategy for the development of E2EDM; and future cooperation with the Ocean Information Technology (OIT) Pilot Project. The Group agreed on an Action Plan for the intersessional period based on three pilot projects identified by the sessional working groups: metadata management, data assembly, quality control and quality assurance, and the development of an E2EDM Prototype. |

Data used to generate the tables and figures presented here are based on daily catch and effort forms (logbooks) returned from fishing vessels that are licensed to fish in the Seychelles EEZ and for purse seiners, as well as from data collected via the tuna sampling programme conducted during transhipment in Port Victoria. Sometimes there are delays in these being received at SFA, especially for longliners that often spend up to a year at sea. For purse seiners the delays are usually during and just after the second quarter of the year when most vessels are fishing in the Mozambique Channel and are not necessarily using Port Victoria for transhipment. Readers should note that many of the figures presented here are subject to revision (usually upwards) as... |

At its meeting in May 1999, the IOC Group of Experts on the Global Sea Level Observing System (GE-GLOSS) discussed the need for data archaeology of historic sea level records in order to possibly extend existing time series and/or gain access to observations which are not in digital form. Following on from this, a member of the GE-GLOSS attended the GODAR Review Conference in Silver Spring, Maryland in July 1999, and suggested that sea-level data also be included in the GODAR project. The GODAR sea level proposal is this. In many countries there are considerable amounts of historical sea level data in paper form such as charts or tabulations. These need to be computerised (a) as a backup for data security, and (b) so that they can be subject to modern... |

The remote sensing data which are used by marine fishery forecast only can get the information of ocean surface, while Argo data can provide fishery forecast with temperature and saltinity data of deeper area. To use Argo data in cycle, we need to compute its circle to improve the quality of forecast. In 2001- 2008 , the longer circle was 62.7 days and 117.5 days , and the shorter circle was 4.9 days and 9.8 days, which were obtained by power spectrum estimation. And there was an unobvious circle of 7 days. There existed big changes in observed profile data amount between years and within a year. |

IFOP, as non profit marine research institute has the mission to provide to the Under Secretariat of Fisheries in Chile, the technical information and scientific basis for the regulation of Chilean Fisheries. For this purpose it has 150 Scientific Observers distributed throughout the Chilean coast. With the intention to improve the process of data production, a group of scientists has developed a new computer science system for data collection, data management, and automatic publication of fishing and biological indicators in Web Page. The system allow to collect data of: fishing trips; captures and species composition; length distribution and biological variables. For this is being carried out the following process. Collection of data in Pocket PC with... |
