Mud blisters related to the Parasite worm Polydora or to the presence of TBT in the Thau Basin waters depreciate the market value of the oysters produced in this lagoon. A solution to this problem was searched by immersing during 1 to 3 months the oysters in the open sea before being marketed, this shell improvment operation being called "affinage en mer". The objective or this study carried out over 2,5 months in automn '1991 was to quantify possible differences, biometrical or biochemical, between oyster immersed for "affinage" on bottom open-sea structures, or remained for a normal cultivation .in the Thau lagoon. No significant differences were measured, although the external aspect of shells was modified for open sea oysters. Complementary studies at... |

A study on mortalities, growth and fattening of the oyster Crassostrea gigas was carried out spring with the autumn 1987 in four sites of bay of Bourgneuf. Mortalities, more important in spring, prove to be higher in the sectors North compared to the Southern sectors of bay of Bourgneuf. The performances of growth are rather weak when they are compared with other French oyster sectors. They however present a better production in the cattle-breeding areas located at the South of bay. The spring phase is marked by the formation of glucidic reserves, at the moment of the reheating of water, which is quickly transformed, in the majority of the sites, in lipids of reserves of the ovocytes, during the gamétogenèse. The state of fattening of Crassostrea gigas... |

An analysis of data from a Tunisian farm during the months of June to November of the year 2008 is presented. These data were broken down into two sets the first concern sampled fish while towing them to farm (wild set), the second set concern sampled specimen at the end of fattening process (fattening set). The wild group comprised specimens ranging from 90 to 276 cm fork length, and the fattened group included specimens from 105 to 310 сm. Juvenile proportion (Lf<130 сm) in fattened specimen (15.7%) was considerably smaller compared to the proportion in wild specimens (61,8%). The distribution of individual weights of slaughtered BFT shows the prevalence 31-50 kg specimen class (60.4%). The L-W relationships were determined for each of these sets.... |

ABSTRACT The subject of this study was to evaluate the effects of lentil byproduct (LP) on growth performance, carcass traits and egg yield of quail (Coturnix coturnix Japonica). To achieve this goal, a total of 600 0-day-old quail chicks were used. The birds were divided into 5 groups with 3 replicates. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th groups received 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% lentil byproduct, respectively. All the diets were prepared as isonitrogenous and isocaloric. As a result of this study, the highest live body weights of quails as Laudadio mixed gender were observed in the 3rd (195.5 g) and 5th (195.3 g) groups at the end of the study, however the differences between the control and treatment groups were not significant (p>0.05). Similar results were... |

Three different genetic groups were evaluated for growth up to slaughter and carcass quality for kill out, commercial cuts, non-carcass components, as well as carcass morphometric measurements. Pure Santa Ines (SI), ½ Ile de France × ½ Santa Ines (I × SI) and ½ Texel × ½ Santa Ines (T × SI) lambs were weighed weekly until they reached predetermined slaughter weight (30, 35, 40 and 45 kg). In both creep feeding and fattening the animals from crosses were superior to the Santa Ines hair sheep in terms of daily weight gain and weaned in less time. Crossbred animals also showed better performance than purebred Santa Ines in terms of commercial cuts and carcass weights. Correlations showed that fat depth and eye muscle area decreased with an increase in... |

ABSTRACT The objectives of this investigation were to examine the impact of the dietary inclusion of rapeseed and soybean oil and the length of their feeding before slaughter on growth performance, quantitative and qualitative carcass traits, and fatty acid composition in longissimus lumborum muscle (LLM) of pigs. The experiment was conducted with 72 pigs (36 barrows and 36 gilts), divided into six oil-containing diet groups and one control group. Diets of the experimental groups were supplemented with 4% rapeseed (ROD) or soybean (SOD) oil for six, four, and two weeks before slaughter. Diet of the control group had no oil supplement. Animals were fed ad libitum and slaughtered at average body weight of 115.8 kg. The oil supplement and feeding duration had... |

The effects of supplementing feedlot diets with ionophores and breed type were assessed on growth rate and carcass characteristics in hair lambs. Twenty four intact males, 12 Pelibuey × Dorper (PDo) and 12 Pelibuey × Damara (PDa) lambs, 17.9 ± 3.7 kg initial weight, were housed in individual pens for a 60-d feeding trial. The lambs were assigned randomly into four diets: control without additives (C); 25 µg/g monensin (M); 28 µg/g salinomycin (S); 28 µg/g S for 20 d, and 25 µg/g M for the next 40 d (SM). Each diet was supplied to six lambs. Data were analyzed as a randomized complete block design in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, with four diets and two breed types of hair lambs (PDo and PDa). All diets were formulated to contain 14% CP and 2.6 Mcal ME/kg... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to identify and quantify, through mathematical models, the main factors of production in growing and finishing pig units linked to three Brazilian cooperatives located in Western Region of Paraná State that influence the parameters of daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio. The records of 216 growing and finishing farms from 2010 to 2013, representing 1,533 batches, and totaling approximately 1,025,000 pigs, were evaluated. Thirty production factors related to the management, health, installations and equipment, nutrition, genetics, and environment were considered. The number of pigs per pen, the feeder model, the origin and sex of the animals, and the initial and final body weights were the factors included in... |
