Genetic parameters for performance and carcass traits in a paternal 1 lineage of broiler Anais da ABC (AABC)
CRUZ,VALDECY A.R.; GRUPIONI,NATALIA V.; MENDONÇA,GABRIELA G.; VENTURINI,GUILHERME C.; LEDUR,MONICA C.; PEIXOTO,JANE O.; MUNARI,DANISIO P..
Abstract The objective of this study was to estimate variance components for performance and carcass traits in a paternal broiler line. The (co)variance components were estimated by the restricted maximum likelihood method applied to the animal model, including the fixed effect of group (sex and hatch) and additive genetic and residual as random effects. Estimated heritability for performance traits ranged from 0.09 to 0.42. The genetic correlations between traits ranged from -0.50 to 0.97. The heritability estimates of feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion from 35 to 41 days of age were of low magnitude. The genetic correlations among them were favorable to genetic selection. These results suggest that moderate genetic gain can be obtained to the...

The effect of stocking density on the growth of apple snails native Pomacea bridgesii and exotic Pomacea lineata (Mollusca, Gastropoda) Anais da ABC (AABC)
JUNIOR,ESMAR SOUZA; BARROS,JOSE CARLOS N. DE; PARESQUE,KARLA; FREITAS,RODRIGO R. DE.
The demand for alternative food sources is currently in evidence in the world and, therefore, the culture of animal species considered not conventional makes this theme relevant and appropriate. In the present study, the species Pomacea lineata and Pomacea bridgesii, each with three stowage densities (0.5 [T1], 1 [T2], and 1.5 [T3] animal/L), were tested. They were analyzed regarding growth rate, weight gain, final biomass, feed conversion and percentage of survival. There was not any statistically significant difference between the different densities for both species. The final average weight in the three waterworks did not differ significantly in P. bridgesii. In P. lineata, T1 (22.3 ± 1.80g) was significantly higher than T2 and T3. On the other hand,...

Effect of piglet castration with nonsurgical sterilant on the zootechnical performance and pork carcass quality Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lucas,D.S.; Siqueira,E.T.F.; Haguiwara,M.M.H.; Azevedo,S.S.; Yotsuyanagi,S.E.; Silva,T.J.P.; Soto,F.R.M..
ABSTRACT A non-surgical sterilant (NSS) was used with the objective of assessing the zootechnical performance, carcass and meat quality, and hormone levels. 90 male piglets were selected with birthweights varying between 1.5kg to 2.0kg. The control group was constituted of 45 males castrated by the conventional surgical method, at the seventh day of age, and the treated group was constituted of 45 males castrated with NSS (active principle of zinc gluconate in the concentration of 26.2mg/mL associated to the dimethyl sulfoxide at 0.5%), with the application of the first dose on the seventh day of age and the second dose on the fourteenth day of age. The zootechnical assessments were carried out on the farm and consisted: weight gain in the periods per...

Effects of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) on the performance of broiler chickens Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
López,C.A.A.; Lima,K.R.S.; Manno,M C.; Tavares,F.B.; Fernandes Neto,D.L.; Jesus,M.L.C.; Viana,M.A.O.; Fonseca,L.A.B..
The effects of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) on growth performance, carcass yield, relative weight of internal organs and microbiology of digestive tract of broiler chickens were investigated. Five hundred and forty male broiler chicks at one day of age were arranged in a completely randomized design with six treatments and six repetitions with 15 broiler chicks each. The treatments were: control (T1 - without growth promoter virginiamycin and CNSL); inclusion levels of 0.10mL (T2), 0.20mL (T3), 0.30mL (T4) and 0.40mL (T5) of CNSL/kg of feed; and commercial promoter virginiamycin (T6). At 21 and 40 days of age, body weight, feed intake, feed conversion and viability of birds were similar in all treatments. Carcass yield was higher in the treatment with...

Performance of confined and grazing lambs fed diets with different mineral-concentrate supplements Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Silva,Aderbal M. de A; Bezerra,Leilson R; Rufino,Sara R. M; Filho,José M. Pereira; Freire,Juliana M; da Silva,Divan S; Oliveira,Ronaldo L; Bayão,Geraldo F. V.
For confined animals, performance is improved when their diet is supplemented with a mineral mixture and protein energy. This study evaluated the effect of dietary supplementation on feedlot sheep on native pasture. Two experiments were conducted in sequence, with the animals constrained in one and animals confined to pasture in the other. The experiments were conducted with 32 Santa Ines lambs, with average initial weights of 16.8 and 19.9 kg for the constrained and pasture studies, respectively. In both experiments, the animals were offered the following supplements: Supplement 1 = 200 g of the concentrate without mineral mixture; Supplement 2 = 200 g of the concentrate with mineral mixture + Mn + Zn; Supplement 3 = 300 g of the concentrate with mineral...

Soybean silage and sugarcane tops silage on lamb performance Ciência Rural
Lima,Josiane Aparecida de; Gavioli,Ivana Lícia de Campos; Barbosa,Cristina Maria Pacheco; Berndt,Alexandre; Gimenes,Flávia Maria de Andrade; Paz,Claudia Cristina de Paro; Cunha,Eduardo Antonio da.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of sheep fed with diets consisting of different proportions of soybean silage and sugarcane tip silage. Twenty four lambs from Morada Nova breed were used, with an average age of 75 days and average weight of 16.98±2.62kg. The following diets were evaluated: T1 = 20% sugarcane tops silage + 80% concentrate, T2 = 20% sugarcane tops silage + 30% soybean silage + 50% concentrate, T3 = 20% sugarcane tops silage + 60% soybean silage + 20% concentrate. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with eight repetitions and each animal was a repetition. It was evaluated the intake of dry matter, organic matter, ash, crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber,...

Kaolin in the diet and its effects on performance, litter moisture and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens Ciência Rural
Lemos,Marina Jorge de; Calixto,Lígia Fátima Lima; Alves,Osvanira dos Santos; Souza,Daniele Santos de; Moura,Bárbara Brandt; Reis,Túlio Leite.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of kaolin in the diet on performance, litter moisture and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens. Four hundred ninety-two broiler chickens distributed in a completely randomized design with three treatments and four replicates of 41 birds each, divided into three periods (15-21; 22-34; 35-52 days) were used. The following treatments were: Control - reference diet without added kaolin; treatment 1 - reference diet + 0.75% kaolin; Treatment 2 - reference diet + 1.5% kaolin. The variables analyzed were: feed intake, average weight, average weight gain, feed conversion, litter moisture, villus height and crypt depth. The inclusion of kaolin in the diet significantly reduced feed intake,...
