(1). During 2002 an estimated total of 4915 tonnes of fish was landed on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue by 374 fishing boats. 83.1% of the total catch was landed on Mahe alone. The total catch increased by 625 tonnes compared to 2001, and the number of boats operating decreased by 3 over the same period. (2). The most important species groups landed (greater than 5% of the total catch) were carangues (41.5%), job (12.4%), capitaine (6.8%), becune (6.1%), maquereau doux (5.7%) and bourgeois (5.7%). (3). Peak landings occurred in October (576.5 MT) and the lowest catch was recorded in January (222.51 MT). The average catch per month was 409.6 tonnes. (4). Seasonal variation in catches of demersal species was less marked compared to previous years. The mean... |

Since 1990, the Argentine commercial fleet directed to hake (Merluccius hubbsi) has obtained more than 70 of catches South of 41°S while to the North of this latitude the activity concentrated between 39°S and 41°S Argentine Sea, SW Atlantic. Bearing in mind the different characteristics of ice-chilling and freezer fleets, their activities were analyzed separately. Considering the relative percentages of catches declared in fishery statistics, the dynamics of each fleet is described per quarter and year. Special reference is made to 1997 when a closed area to protect juveniles was introduced between 44°S-47°S and 62°W-65°W. The freezer fleet activity, concentrated South of 41°S, especially South of 43°S, was stable throughout the period. It grouped around... |

Catch statistics and fishing craft statistics are presented for the Indian Ocean tuna fisheries for the period 1990-1999. The former are presented by species, country, year and by gear. Details are also given of the number of fisheries crafts in the national fleets, in order to provide information on the economic and technical development of the fisheries and to provide an approximate idea of fluctuations in fishing effort. |

This document presents a brief summary of the main general French purse-seiners activities in the Indian Ocean since the beginning of their fishery in 1981: catch by species and fishing type (log and free swimming schools), effort and sampling for sizes and species composition. The description of statistics gathering, sampling and processing procedures are reported in a specific document presented at the meeting (WPDCS/99/09). |
