Cresoni-Pereira,Carla; Zucoloto,Fernando Sérgio.
Influence of male nutritional conditions on the performance and alimentary selection of wild females of Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) (Diptera, Tephritidae). The behavior of A. obliqua females is regulated by endogenous and exogenous factors and among these the presence of males. Experiments were carried out to investigate whether the presence of males and their nutritional condition may affect the behavior of self-selection feeding and the performance of A. obliqua females. Females were sorted in groups containing yeast-deprived females and males, and non-yeast-deprived females and males. The females were maintained apart from the males by a transparent plastic screen. Several yeast and sucrose combinations were offered to the females in a single diet...

Mariottini,Yanina; Wysiecki,María Laura De; Lange,Carlos Ernesto.
Dichroplus maculipennis is one of the most characteristic and damaging grasshopper species of Argentina, mainly in areas of the Pampas and Patagonia regions. We estimated and compared the longevity and fecundity of adult female D. maculipennis under controlled conditions (30ºC, 14L:10D, 40% RH) from individuals collected as last instar nymphs (VI) in the field and with a known recent history of low and high density conditions. Densities of D. maculipennis at the collecting sites were 0.95 individuals per m² in 2006 and 46 ind/m² in 2009, representing non-outbreaking and outbreaking situations, respectively. Adult female longevity in 2006 (67.96 ± 3.2 days) was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in 2009 (37.44 ± 1.98 days). The number of egg-pods per...

Efeito da atividade sexual, do sexo e da linhagem geográfica sobre a longevidade de Megaselia scalaris Loew (Diptera, Phoridae) Zoologia
Silva,Heriberto Dias da.
Longevity is an important characteristic of life history of species which is influenced by environment, genetic constituition and sexual activity. Three sexual activity regimes were investigated in three geographical lineages in Megaselia scalaris Loew, 1866 that have been maintened in the laboratory at 25ºC. It was observed that virgin flies are more longevous than others, females more than males, and a sex-lineage interaction underlying this pattern variation. It was observed an inverse relation between the environmental temperature of the lineages's locality and longevity.

Growth of the silverside Atherinella brasiliensis in a subtropical estuary with some insights concerning the weight-length relationship Anais da ABC (AABC)
CARVALHO,BARBARA M. DE; BARRADAS,JOSÉ RICARDO S.; FONTOURA,NELSON F.; SPACH,HENRY L..
ABSTRACT Specimens of Brazilian silverside (Atherinella brasiliensis, n=9672) with a length range of 1.5 to 14.2 cm were captured in the intertidal areas of the Estuarine Complex of Paranaguá, Brazil, between August 2010 and July 2011. The species’ weight-length relationship was represented by the equation W=0.00533 L3.136 with a slightly positive allometry (b>3) and could be divided into two growth stanzas: W = W1 + W2; Stanza 1: W1= SW. (0.005239 L3.152); Stanza 2: W2= (1 - SW). (0.000699 L3.913); Switch-Function: SW = [1 + e1.204 (L - 11.66)]-1. The breakpoint between the first and second stanza (11.66 cm) matches published values for the estimated size at first maturity of adult females. Frequency distributions indicate that the species is present...
