Mental Foramen Morphometry in a Population from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pakistan International Journal of Morphology
Badshah,Masroor; Soames,Roger; Khan,Muhammad Jaffar; Hasnain,Jamshaid; Khan,Jehanzeb.
Knowledge of variations in MF location, size and shape is important when anesthetizing nerves of the mandibular region in dental procedures. The location, shape and position of the MF were determined in 119 human mandibles of unknown age and sex from different KP medical institutions. Parameters determined were: MF length and width; accessory mental foramen (AMF) width; MF and AMF to midline (MF-ML) (AMF-ML), upper (MF-UM) (AMF-UM) and lower mandibular margins (MF-LM) (AMF-LM) and posterior border of the mandibular ramus (MF-PRM) (AMF-PRM). AMF position in relation to the MF was also noted. MF were mainly oval and situated below the second premolar. MF mean length and width were: 2.4 ± 0.89 (right) and 2.4 ± 0.727 mm (left), and 3.0 ± 0.80 (right) and 2.9...

Evaluation of Dental Eruption of Third Molars in the Length of Mandible International Journal of Morphology
Sousa Filho,Gilberto de; Amorim Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Silva Neto,Joaquim Celestino da.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the eruption of the third molar teeth in the length of the mandible using the orthodontic documentation obtained between 2005 and 2006 as sampling method, a total of 193 cases of both sexes. The cephalometric analysis and panoramic radiographic studies were chosen from two clinics randomly selected in the city of Recife Pernambuco - Brazil. It was analyzed the linear size of mandibular bone by the use of McNamara's Cephalometric Analysis, and also the presence or not of dental retention of inferior third molar teeth with the help of panoramic radiographic study, evaluating the commitment of these retentions with the effective length of mandible. The work concluded that when the effective mandibular length is small...

THE MANDIBULAR MUSCLES OF Puma concolor (MAMMALIA, CARNIVORA, FELIDAE) Acta biol.Colomb.
LLANOS,Romina Paola; ANDRADE,Analía; IBIRICU,Lucio Manuel; CARRERA,Marcelo.
This manuscript describes the mandibular muscles of the puma (Puma concolor), a widely sparse American carnivorous mammal. The muscles on the right and left side of the head of three specimens -two adult males and one young female- were dissected and photographed. This study increases our knowledge on the mandibular soft tissue and adds important anatomical information to the poorly known and documented musculature of this felid, the largest of the subfamily Felinae.

Temporomandibular joint ankylosis and salivary mucocele in a cat: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Rahal,S.C.; Mamprim,M.J.; Caporali,E.H.; Ciani,R.B..
An approximately 1.5-year-old, not neutered mixed breed cat was referred for evaluation of inability to open its mouth, and soft tissue swelling around the intermandibular region. Both signs were present since the cat was adopted, 1 year before presentation. The cause of the signs was not determined prior to referral. Based on the physical and radiographic examinations, left temporomandibular joint ankylosis and salivary mucocele were diagnosed. The lateral aspect of the condyloid process of the left mandible was removed and the salivary mucocele was treated by right mandibular and sublingual gland resection and drainage of the mucocele. After surgery, the cat showed good functional use of the mandible without discomfort.

Microbiota associated with chronic osteomyelitis of the jaws BJM
Gaetti-Jardim Júnior,Elerson; Fardin,Angélica Cristiane; Gaetti-Jardim,Ellen Cristina; Castro,Alvimar Lima de; Schweitzer,Christiane Marie; Avila-Campos,Mario Julio.
Chronic osteomyelitis of maxilla and mandible is rare in industrialized countries and its occurrence in developing countries is associated with trauma and surgery, and its microbial etiology has not been studied thoroughly. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the microbiota associated with osteomyelitis of mandible or maxilla from some Brazilian patients. After clinical and radiographic evaluation, samples of bone sequestra, purulent secretion, and biopsies of granulomatous tissues from twenty-two patients with chronic osteomyelitis of mandible and maxilla were cultivated and submitted for pathogen detection by using a PCR method. Each patient harbored a single lesion. Bacterial isolation was performed on fastidious anaerobe agar supplemented...

Facial trauma in a dog: advantages of the use of computed tomography on diagnostic of caudal fractures of mandible Ciência Rural
Carvalho,Vanessa Graciela Gomes; Pinto,Ana Carolina Fonseca; Gioso,Marco Antônio; Correa,Herbert Lima; Cavalcanti,Marcelo Gusmão Paraíso.
A multiple mandible fracture was diagnosed in a mixed breed dog. After clinical examination, extra-oral radiographs were used to evaluate the trauma but, a complete visualization of the fractures extension was difficult due to the great of structures of cranium. Then, the computed tomography was accomplished to help and to find all osseous tissues fractured, their exact location, existent fragments and their positions; being superior to the radiograph exam in the accurate diagnosis realized.
