Effects of temperature and pre-germinative treatments on seed germination of Talinum triangulare (Jacq. ) willd (Portulacaceae) Rev. bras. sementes

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of temperature, substrate and pre-germinative treatments on T. triangulare seeds. Four temperatures (constant 20, 25, 30 °C and alternate 20-30 °C) and two types of seeding (on paper and between paper), with light, were evaluated. The pre-germinative treatments evaluated included: immersion in water (24 hours), immersion in 6% hypochlorite solution (1 hour), immersion in 0.2% potassium nitrate solution (24 hours), immersion in 0.05% gibberellin solution (24 hours) and the control (untreated seeds). ABSTRACT The aims of this study were to establish micropropagation for Chenopodium ambrosioides L. and analysis of volatile constituents in vitro as a function of different salt concentrations of MS medium and sucrose. The apical buds were established on MS medium added with 3% sucrose. The vegetative growth of nodal segments was tested in different salt concentrations of MS basic medium (0.25, 0.50, 1.00, 1.50, and 2.00) and of sucrose (5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 g L-1). The high demand for plant material from Calendula officinalis in the production of herbal medicines and cosmetics, turns the technique of plant-tissue culture into one of the alternatives for the improvement of crops over a short period of time. A protocol for tissue culture was developed from segments of seedlings of C. officinalis, in order to improve the proliferation of shoots and roots. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate different concentrations of two cytokinins in the in vitro propagation of the medicinal plant Hyptis marrubioides Epl. and to analyse the volatile fraction of the compounds. Nodal segments of plants were inoculated onto Murashige and Skoog (MS) solid medium with different concentrations of benzylaminopurine (BAP) or tidiazuron (TDZ) under a 16/8 h light/dark cycle at 25 ± 2 °C. After 45 days growth, the plants were evaluated for the number and length of the shoots and for shoot dry matter. The volatile constituents were analysed by headspace-GC/MS. Exigencies as ethic plant raw material are part of the needs of modern phytotherapy. Micropropagation offers opportunities to obtain mass propagation of superior genotypes in short time. This study aimed to develop a protocol of direct and indirect organogenesis of Phyllanthus tenellus Roxb. Nodal segments from plantlets obtained by in vitro germination were subcultured in modified Murashige and Skoog medium added with different plant growth regulators: IAA (indole-3-acetic acid), IBA (indole-3-butyric acid), GA3 (3-giberelic acid) and KIN (kinetin). ABSTRACT This study developed a methodology for callus induction in leaf segments of B. verbascifolia and evaluated the bioactive phenolic compounds production. Leaf explants were cultured in MS medium with 30 g L-1 sucrose, solidified with 7 g L- 1 agar supplemented with 2,4-D (0; 4.52; 9.05; 18.10 µM) and BAP (0; 4.44; 8.88; 17.75 µM ) in the presence and absence of light. Este trabalho visou avaliar a influência da temperatura do ar de secagem sobre a composição química do óleo essencial de Melaleuca alternifólia Cheel. Foram tomadas aleatoriamente três amostras de cada tratamento que foram analisadas ainda frescas, avaliando o teor de água e os constituintes químicos. Para a realização dos testes de secagem foram utilizadas amostras da planta triturada, utilizando um secador de leito fixo. As temperaturas do ar de secagem foram 40, 50, 60, 70 e 80°C. Population dynamics of Cyrtomon luridus Boheman (Coloptera: Curculionidae) on Duboisia sp. (Solanaceae) in Brazil Scientia Agricola

Cyrtomon luridus (Boheman) has adapted to the medicinal plant Duboisia sp., introduced from Australia. Its larvae feed on roots, causing up to 100% mortality damages. The population dynamics and biological cycle were studied to determine future control methods in Duboisia sp., in Arapongas, Paraná State, Brazil, from 1993 to 1996. C. luridus presented annual life cycle in Duboisia sp. under natural conditions. The larval development period was 120 to 150 days, from January to May, reaching an average size of 19.0 ± 2.0 mm in soil depth ranging on 24.9 ± 8.6 cm to 45.0 ± 10.0 cm. Cyrtomon luridus (Boh.), a native insect of wild Solanaceae, has adapted to the medicinal plant Duboisia sp., introduced from Australia, causing damages up to 100% mortality. Microctonus sp. is the most important natural enemy of C. luridus and its potential for biological control was investigated in this work. This study was carried out in Arapongas, Paraná State, Brazil, from 1994 to 1996. Parasitism of C. luridus by Microctonus sp. was highest from February through June (maximum of 54% in May 1996), when the C. luridus adult population was decreasing. Assigning an economic value to a given environmental asset has helped conservation proposals, and valuing these assets at levels comparable to market rates facilitates the establishment of environmental policies. Thus, this research aimed to assess the value of the species Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão, using the method of contingent valuation to determine the maximum willingness to pay of frequent visitors to the Caruaru Fair, located in northeastern Brazil. One of the greatest problems in the elaboration of forestation programs using native species is the lack of knowledge about seedling production. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Bauhinia forficate seedlings submitted to phosphorus levels. Eleven-day-old seedlings were transplanted to small tubettes (110 cm3) with pinus bark and vermiculite substratum base. The experiment was conducted in an entirely randomized delineation, with six P treatments: T0-control (substratum without P addition), T1-50, T2-100, T3-150, T4-200 and T5-250 mg dm-3, with five replications and 20 seedlings per replication. Chemical diversity of accessions of the in vivo germplasm bank of Varronia curassavica (Jacq.) Agronomy

Varronia curassavica (Jacq.) is a shrub and perennial plant native to Brazil that has therapeutic, anti-inflammatory and cicatrizing properties. The objective of this work was to study the chemical diversity of the native populations of this species maintained in the in vivo germplasm bank from Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The essential oils of 10 accessions analyzed in triplicate were obtained by hydrodistillation. Fifty-five compounds were detected, 46 of which were identified by GC-MS analysis. Leaves were collected, fixed and processed by usual techniques, and studied by light and electron microscopy. Quantitative analyzes of stomata and trichomes were performed. The leaves showed typical characteristics of Rubiaceae family, like hypostomatic leaves, paracytic stomata, dorsiventral mesophyll and collateral bundles.
