The presence of Melinna palmata (Annelida : Polychaeta) and Ensis directus (Mollusca : Bivalvia) related to sedimentary changes in the Bay of Seine (English Channel, France) ArchiMer
Dauvin, J; Ruellet, T; Thiebaut, E; Gentil, F; Desroy, Nicolas; Janson, A; Duhamel, S; Jourde, J; Simon, S.
Since late 1990s the annelid polychaete Melinna palmata and the mollusc bivalve Ensis directus have been collected in the eastern part of the Bay of Seine (English Channel), indicating changes in the benthic communities. Melinna palmata was never collected prior to 2002, whereas it was reported in the muddy fine sands of the western part of the Channel, along the French (e.g. Bay of Cherbourg) and southern UK (e.g. Southampton Waters) coasts. Ensis directus was first reported in 1998 and now appears to be well implanted, given the abundant population collected in 2006. The colonization of Melina palmata seems to be a consequence of recent increase of the fine sediment in the eastern part of the Bay, while that of the invasive Ensis directus seems more...

Scleractinian corals (Fungiidae, Agariciidae and Euphylliidae) of Pulau Layang-Layang, Spratly Islands, with a note on Pavona maldivensis (Gardiner, 1905) ArchiMer
Waheed, Zarinah; Benzoni, Francesca; Van Der Meij, Sancia E. T.; Terraneo, Tullia I.; Hoeksema, Bert W..
Layang-Layang is a small island part of an oceanic atoll in the Spratly Islands off Sabah, Malaysia. As the reef coral fauna in this part of the South China Sea is poorly known, a survey was carried out in 2013 to study the species composition of the scleractinian coral families Fungiidae, Agariciidae and Euphylliidae. A total of 56 species was recorded. The addition of three previously reported coral species brings the total to 59, consisting of 32 Fungiidae, 22 Agariciidae, and five Euphylliidae. Of these, 32 species are new records for Layang-Layang, which include five rarely reported species, i.e., the fungiids Lithophyllon ranjithi, Podabacia sinai, Sandalolitha boucheti, and the agariciids Leptoseris kalayaanensis and L. troglodyta. The coral fauna...

Unexpected finding of Diclidurus ingens, Hernández-Camacho, 1955 (Chiroptera, Emballonuridae), in the Colombian Biogeographic Chocó Mastozool. neotrop.
Mantilla-Meluk,Hugo; Jiménez-Ortega,Alex Mauricio; Palacios,Leison; Baker,Robert J..
After nine years a new record of the greater ghost bat Diclidurus ingens is reported. This new specimen constitutes the tenth known record for the species and the only record available for the Biogeographic Chocó. The presence of D. ingens on the western side of the Andes in the Biogeographic Chocó represents a significant addition to the range of distribution of this species as well as an important piece of evidence to understand the ecological adaptations of these apparently rare bats in the Neotropics.

Bats (mammalia: chiroptera) from the caatinga scrublands of the crateus region, northeastern Brazil, with new records for the state of Ceará Mastozool. neotrop.
da Silva,Shirley S. P; Dias,Daniela; Martins,Mayara A; Guedes,Patrícia G; de Almeida,Juliana C; da Cruz,Alexandre P; Serra-Freire,Nicolau M; Damascena,Joyce dos S; Peracchi,Adriano L.
Whereas surveys of the bat fauna are available for some localities in the Brazilian Northeast, studies in the caatinga scrublands are still limited. The aim of this study was to survey the bat fauna in an area of caatinga scrublands in the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN Serra das Almas), which is located on the Ibiapaba Plateau, State of Ceará. The bat assemblage of the reserve was surveyed in July 2012 (rainy season), and January 2013 (dry season), with a total of 19 sampling nights. We captured 347 individuals of 23 species representing six families. The bat fauna was characterized by the predominance of a few abundant species, in particular phyllostomid frugivores, and many rare species, which is frequent in studies based on mist nets at ground...

New records of Neusticomys oyapocki (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) from a human-dominated forest landscape in northeastern Brazilian Amazonia Mastozool. neotrop.
Leite,Rafael do Nascimento; da Silva,Maria Nazareth F.; Gardner,Toby A..
Here we report three new specimens of Neusticomys oypocki from northeastern Brazilian Amazonia collected in a plantation forestry landscape. These represent one third of all known N. oyapocki specimens and extend the distribution of the species ca. 360 km southwards. All specimens were captured with pitfall traps, which reinforce the importance of this method for comprehensive small mammal inventories. Moreover, captures occurred during the dry season in primary, secondary, or plantation forests, suggesting that species of Neusticomys may be more opportunistic habitat generalists than previously thought.

Notes on the genus Amphiprion Bloch & Schneider, 1801 (Teleostei: Pomacentridae) and its host sea anemones in the Seychelles Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den.
The genus Amphiprion Bloch & Schneider, 1801, is represented in the Seychelles by two species, A. akallopisos Bleeker, 1853, and the endemic A. fuscocaudatus Allen, 1972. Throughout its distributional range Amphiprion akallopisos has exclusively been recorded to associate with the clownfish anemones Heteractis magnifica (Quoy & Gaimard, 1833) and Stichodactyla mertensii Brandt, 1835. During the Netherlands Indian Ocean Programme (NIOP) Seychelles Expedition 19921993 this was confirmed for the Seychelles, although the species was predominantly found with H. magnifica, the most common host anemone in the islands. So far, Amphiprion fuscocaudatus had exclusively been reported as a symbiont of Stichodactyla mertensii. During the NIOP Seychelles...

Dijkstra, H.H.; Maestrati, P..
This paper documents the species of Pectinoidea Rafinesque, 1815 collected in Vanuatu during the SANTO 2006 expedition. A total of 49 species (13 Propeamussiidae Abbott, 1954, 4 Cyclochlamydidae n. fam., 1 Entoliidae Teppner, 1922, and 31 Pectinidae Rafinesque, 1815) are represented, of which 70% are new records for Vanuatu. A new family, Cyclochlamydidae n. fam., is established for the genera Cyclochlamys Finlay, 1926, Chlamydella Iredale, 1929 and Micropecten n. gen., formerly placed in Propeamussiidae, but differing by their sculptured prodissoconch (smooth in Propeamussiidae), an occasionally antimarginally sculptured right valve (smooth or weak commarginally sculptured in Propeamussiidae), a (common) simple outer prismatic layer of longitudinally...

Revision of the Palaearctic Gasteruption assectator aggregate, with special reference to Sweden (Hymenoptera, Gasteruptiidae) Naturalis
Johansson, N.; Achterberg, C. van.
The Palaearctic species of the Gasteruption assectator aggregate (Hymenoptera, Gasteruptiidae) are revised and three species are recognised. Two species are re-instated: Gasteruption boreale (Thomson, 1883), stat. n. and G. nigritarse (Thomson, 1883), stat. n., and both are excluded from the synonymy with G. assectator (Linnaeus, 1758). The general distribution of both species is given for Europe and in detail for Sweden. A key to the valid Palaearctic species of the Gasteruption assectator aggregate is given; key characters and primary types are illustrated. Four new synonyms are listed: Foenus fumipennis Thomson, 1883, Trichofoenus breviterebrae Watanabe, 1934, and Gasteruption margotae Madl, 1987, are synonymized with Gasteruption boreale (Thomson,...
