Het kalkdoorntje is een zeldzame sprinkhanensoort, die vooral bekend is uit Zuid-Limburg en van enkele locaties in het rivierengebied. Over het voorkomen van dit kleine sprinkhaantje binnen de Gelderse Poort was lange tijd weinig bekend. Pas vanaf 2007 worden regelmatig waarnemingen gedaan. Toevallige waarnemingen op, voor de auteur, onverwachte locaties vormden de aanleiding voor een grondige inventarisatie in de jaren 2011-2013. Hieruit komt naar voren dat het kalkdoorntje een ruime verspreiding heeft binnen de Gelderse Poort en een meer diverse biotoopkeuze heeft dan voorheen bekend was.

Kennelijk was 2010 een goed jaar voor nieuwe sprinkhanen en krekels in ons land, want na de vondst van de kiezelsprinkhaan op 18 juli 2010 (zie elders dit nummer) werd op 19 augustus de krekel Eumodicogryllus bordigalensis voor het eerst in Nederland gevonden. Op een verlaten spoorterrein bij Ede werd het opvallende geluid gehoord en nader onderzoek liet zien dat er een populatie van enkele tientallen dieren aanwezig was. De soort komt vooral voor in Zuid-Europa, maar de laatste jaren zijn er diverse vindplaatsen in Midden-Europa bekend geworden. Het is nog onduidelijk hoe de nieuwe plekken bereikt worden.

De kassprinkhaan is een buitenbeentje onder de Nederlandse sprinkhanen en krekels. Ze komt van oorsprong waarschijnlijk voor in grotten in Oost-Azië en is door transport van eieren met plantenmateriaal over de hele wereld verspreid geraakt. Ze kan tijdelijk overleven in het kunstmatig grotmilieu van bijvoorbeeld kruipruimtes van woonhuizen, in kassen en tuincentra. Recentelijk werd een opmerkelijk grote populatie van de kassprinkhaan gevonden in het uitgebreide stelsel aan kruipruimtes onder een verpleeghuis in Friesland. De kassprinkhaan blijkt hier al ruim 40 jaar voor te komen. Het is waarschijnlijk de grootste Europese populatie van deze soort.

This paper presents a summary of the current knowledge on the systematics of the Greek taxa of Chorthippus, morphologically characterised by angled lateral pronotal keels (usually grouped as Glyptobothrus). Prior to this paper, based on traditional morphology, ten taxa of Chorthippus with angled lateral pronotal keels were recognized from Greece. The mole cricket Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa in de Dutch dunes (Orthoptera) In recent years mole crickets Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa were found at 37 sites in the Dutch dunes. Conservation measures to create moist dune valleys seem to play a positive role for mole crickets. Half of the new records stemmed from recently created wet areas. A number of mole crickets were caught at night during bird investigations with standing nets. Probably the change of the environment in the dunes can develop more mole cricket sites in the region. Possibly the species can colonize the vegetable garden complexes at the edge of the dunes, its main habitat in the province of Zuid-Holland.

De boomkrekel is een slanke geelbruine krekel, die vooral opvalt door zijn melodieuze zang. Vroeger moest je naar Frankrijk om dit geluid te horen, maar tegenwoordig heerst ook in het rivierengebied bij Nijmegen een mediterrane sfeer. De boomkrekel is in 2004 voor het eerst langs de Waal gevonden en heeft zich daarna uitgebreid. In 2010 en 2011 heeft de Flora- en faunawerkgroep Gelderse Poort met vele vrijwilligers onderzoek gedaan naar de precieze verspreiding. In totaal werd de boomkrekel in 57 kilometerhokken gevonden en de verwachting is dat de soort zich de komende jaren verder zal uitbreiden.

Sprinkhanen zijn goed bestudeerd in Nederland. Het was daarom een grote verrassing toen in het voorjaar van 2011 het bosdoorntje werd aangetroffen in park de Hoge Veluwe. Het is een zeldzame soort in Noordwest-Europa en ze was al sinds 1975 niet meer in Nederland gevonden. Door de nieuwe vondst zal het bosdoorntje niet meer als Verdwenen op de nieuwe rode lijst prijken.

De kiezelsprinkhaan is een vrij grote veldsprinkhaan, met lichtblauwe achtervleugels, die zichtbaar worden als het dier opvliegt. De soort duikt de laatste jaren op steeds meer plekken op in Noordwest-Europa. Op 18 juli 2010 werd de eerste kiezelsprinkhaan voor Nederland ontdekt, op een verlaten spoorwegterrein in Rotterdam. De populatie was vrijwel meteen verdwenen, want het terrein ging al snel op de schop. Alert geworden sprinkhaanonderzoekers waren inmiddels elders in het land ook op zoek en er werden populaties aangetroffen op de Maasvlakte en op spoorterreinen bij Arnhem, Molenhoek en op een andere plek in Rotterdam. De kiezelsprinkhaan lijkt dus vaste voet aan de grond te hebben in ons land.

The Neotropical genus Aleuas Stål 1878 is constituted by nine recognized species, distributed in South America. This genus is closely related to Adimantus Stål 1878, Zygoclistron Rehn 1905 and Episcopotettix Rehn 1903 (Copiocerinae). Only four species of Aleuas have been reported in Argentina, covering different phytogeographical provinces: A. gracilis Stål 1878, A. lineatus Stål 1878, A. paranensis Carbonell 2008 and A. vitticollis Stål 1878. In this contribution we provide novel records for A. uruguayensis and illustrate the geographic distribution of the species. This work extends the known distribution range of the species as well as it contributes to the general knowledge on the Orthoptera diversity in Argentina.

Breaking the rule: multiple patterns of scaling of sexual size dimorphism with body size in orthopteroid insects

Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) although a widespread phenomenon among animals, is both enigmatic as to its proximate and ultimate causes and the scaling relationships between SSD and body size (Rensch's rule). We analyzed SSD at the intra- and interspecific levels in a number of representative species and genera of the major orthopteroid orders: Orthoptera, Phasmatodea, Mantodea, Blattodea, Dermaptera, Isoptera, and Mantophasmatodea. The vast majority of the species showed female biased SSD but numerous exceptions occur in cockroaches and earwigs. Análisis morfológico del sistema reproductor femenino de Baeacris punctulatus (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Melanoplinae)

RESUMEN. Baeacris punctulatus (Thunberg) es una especie de importancia económica, de amplia distribución en Sudamérica. En el presente trabajo se realiza un estudio anatomo-histológico de los órganos reproductivos internos, en hembras silvestres y obtenidas en cámara de cría. El estudio permitió determinar particularidades histomorfológicas, en ovarios, glándulas accesorias, oviductos laterales y oviducto medio, relacionadas con la génesis y transferencia de las gametas y la ovoposición.
