Changes in the Messenger RNA Expressions of the Endothelin-1 and Angiotensin Systems in Mature Follicles of the Superovulated Bovine Ovary OAK
SHIMIZU, Takashi; BERISHA, Bajram; SCHAMS, Dieter; MIYAMOTO, Akio; 清水, 隆; 宮本, 明夫.
The aim of the present study was to examine the messenger RNA expressions of the endothelin and angiotensin systems during the periovulatory phase in gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH)-treated cows. Ovaries were collected by transvaginal ovariectomy (n=5 cows/group), and the follicles (n=5, one follicle/cow) were classified into the following groups: before GnRH administration (control, before LH surge), 3-5 h after GnRH (during LH surge), 10 h after GnRH; 20 h after GnRH, 25 h after GnRH (peri-ovulation), and early corpus luteum (CL) (Days 2-3). Expression of mRNA was investigated using quantitative real-time PCR. The expression of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) mRNA significantly decreased immediately after onset of the LH surge and remained at...

Relationships Between the First Ovulation Postpartum and Polymorphism in Genes Relating to Function of Immunity, Metabolism and Reproduction in High-producing Dairy Cows OAK

The decrease in fertility and conception rates of high-producing dairy cows is one of the major negative impacts for today's producers. The recovery of ovarian activity postpartum is affected by the status of immunity, metabolism and reproduction and plays a critical role in subsequent fertility after parturition in the cow. In the present study we investigated the relationships between polymorphisms in genes relating to the above functions and the first postpartum ovulation as a marker of the recovery of ovarian function in the cow. In immune function related-factors, the occurrence of first postpartum ovulation within 3 weeks in the C/C genotypes of tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) exon (55.4%) and the A/G genotypes of TNFα promoter (55.4%) was...

Accumulation of Eosinophils in the Infundibulum of the Bovine Oviduct Just after Ovulation OAK
KOWSAR, Rasoul; JIEMTAWEEBOON, Sineenard; SHIRASUNA, Koumei; SHIMIZU, Takashi; SASAKI, Motoki; KITAMURA, Nobuo; MIYAMOTO, Akio; 清水, 隆; 佐々木, 基樹; 宮本, 明夫.
This study was to investigate the localization and distribution of eosinophils (EOS) in the bovine oviduct throughout the estrous cycle. Histological studies revealed more abundant EOS in the infundibula of the oviducts ipsilateral to the preovulatory dominant follicle and the ovulated ovary. The number of EOS was higher in the infundibula of the oviducts ipsilateral to the ovulated ovary than those of the oviducts contralateral to the ovulated ovary. The infundibula of the oviducts ipsilateral to the preovulatory dominant follicle had higher number of EOS than those of the oviducts ipsilateral to the mid-cycle corpus luteum. The number of EOS in the isthmus, but not in the ampulla, was higher in the outer layers (tunica muscularis and tunica serosa) than...

Insulin-like growth factor and growth hormone receptor in postpartum lactating beef cows PAB
Schneider,Augusto; Pfeifer,Luiz Francisco Machado; Hax,Lucas Teixeira; Paludo,Giane Regina; Pino,Francisco Augusto Burkert Del; Dionello,Nelson José Laurino; Corrêa,Marcio Nunes.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the plasma concentrations of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), and the mRNA hepatic expression of IGF-I and of the growth hormone receptors GHR and GHR 1A, in postpartum beef cows. Four Angus and four crossbred (Angus x Nelore) postpartum suckled beef cows were used. Liver and blood samples were collected every 10 days, from calving to 40 days postpartum, for gene expression and for β-hydroxybutyrate and IGF-I assays, respectively. Samples for progesterone assay were collected every other day, from day 10 to 40 postpartum. Three cows ovulated before 40 days postpartum. IGF-I concentration was higher in Angus x Nelore than in Angus cows. There was no difference in the expression of GHR, GHR 1A and IGF-I...

Temperament and reproductive biology: emotional reactivity and reproduction in sheep R. Bras. Zootec.
Blache,Dominique; Bickell,Samantha L..
Reproductive capacity is controlled by a large number of factors such as season, social interactions and metabolic status. However, the influence of emotional reactivity on reproductive success has not been intensively investigated in farm animals. In this review, we define emotion reactivity and the expression of its inter individual variability named temperament. We briefly describe our protocol to measure temperament in sheep and discuss the heritability of temperament traits. Using the results obtained from our flock of sheep selected for calm or nervous temperament, we illustrate how this selection affects the reproductive biology from changing the inexperienced ewe's response to the male effect to improving lamb survival and ovulation rate. We...

Effects of GnRH administration on ovulation and fertility in ewes subjected to estrous synchronization R. Bras. Zootec.
Cavalcanti,Amanda dos Santos; Brandão,Felipe Zandonadi; Nogueira,Luiz Altamiro Garcia; Fonseca,Jeferson Ferreira da.
The objective of this study was to verify the effects of GnRH on ovulation and pregnancy of ewes subjected to a short-term synchronization of estrus. Santa Inês and crossbred Santa Inês/Dorper ewes received 60 mg MAP sponges during 6 days plus 300 IU eCG and 30 µg d-cloprostenol 24 h prior to sponge withdrawal (SW). Ewes were assigned to receive 0.9% NaCl solution (Tcontrol; n = 32) or 25 µg GnRH (licerelin, T GnRH; n = 34) 24 hours after SW. Each group was assigned to intrauterine insemination by laparoscopy (n = 25) or to natural mating (n = 41). Artificial insemination was performed with a single dose of fresh semen. For controlled mating, females were exposed to males 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours after SW. Ten females per treatment were subjected to...
