A bush mango (Irvingia gabonensis) nut handling machine was developed to ease the tedium involved in the cracking operation and enhance the efficiency of separating the kernels from hulls. The machine consists of a hopper, cracking unit barrel, electric motor, blower, tool frame, hull outlet and kernel outlet. It operates on the principle of impact using centrifugal force from the baffles on a spinning disc. Results of performance tests carried out using nuts at four moisture levels in the range of 7.52-20.6% (d.b) showed that percent effective cracking decreased, while percentage kernel breakage increased with increase in feed rate, moisture content and resident time of nuts in the cracking chamber. Winnowing efficiency increased with feed rate and... |

Abstract A Fish feed mixing machine was designed, developed and the effect of speed and retention time on the performance of the mixer was evaluated. The mixing system was tested using three fish feed ingredients; bone meal, groundnut cake and maize grain which was purchased from the market in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The moisture content of the bought ingredients was determined to be 13.1%, 14.7% and 17.5% moisture content dry basis respectively. The mixer was tested using a feed component of three equal measures of 10 kg of ground corn (maize), milled groundnut cake and bone meal which were initially retained on 2 mm, 850 µm and 150 µm sieve respectively. The experiment was replicated thrice at four retention time (5 min, 10 min, 15 min and 20 min)... |

Drying of grain is usually achieved by spreading grains on earth for solar radiation. This technique is moderate, but being unsecured from a downpour, dust, invasion of bugs, rodents, and distinct animals, items might be severely degraded to the degree that occasionally becomes contaminated and issued loss of nourishment excellence. To defeat this, solar drying is the greatest assuring technique for the protection of agricultural commodities. In the proposed research, the low-cost mixed-mode solar dryer was developed (Workshop of Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India) using locally accessible, environmentally friendly materials, and the performance was evaluated. The solar dryer was developed using the components like a... |
