Economic viability of feeding dairy cows on diets containing different levels of soybean oil R. Bras. Zootec.
Lopes,Marcos Aurélio; Lage,Luciana Andrade; Lopes,Fernando César Ferraz; Ribeiro,Carlos Gustavo Santos; Gama,Marco Antônio Sundfeld da; Rodriguez,Norberto Mario.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic viability of feeding dairy cows with diets containing different levels of soybean oil. Cows were fed diets based on tropical forage (Pennisetum purpureum Schum) supplemented with different levels of soybean oil (0.0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5% of diet DM). The calculations were made considering the prices of the dietary ingredients and the daily consumption of each dietary treatment. The milk quality-based payment was estimated on the bonus paid for milk fat and protein contents according to two systems used by companies of the dairy sector. The economic benefit was calculated as the difference between the income obtained from milk sale and the cost associated with animal feeding. The MOP scenario analysis...

Applying precision feeding techniques in growing-finishing pig operations R. Bras. Zootec.
Pomar,Cândido; Hauschild,Luciano; Zhang,Guo-Hua; Pomar,Jesus; Lovatto,Paolo Alberto.
The high cost of feed ingredients, the use of non-renewable sources of phosphate and the dramatic increase in the environmental load resulting from the excessive land application of manure are major challenges for the livestock industry. Precision feeding is proposed as an essential approach to improve the utilization of dietary nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients and thus reduce feeding costs and nutrient excretion. Precision feeding requires accurate knowledge of the nutritional value of feedstuffs and animal nutrient requirements, the formulation of diets in accordance with environmental constraints, and the gradual adjustment of the dietary nutrient supply to match the requirements of the animals. After the nutritional potential of feed...

The role of information in meat sheep production MV&Z
Raineri, Camila; Stivari, Thayla Sara Soares; Gameiro, Augusto Hauber.
This essay presents reflections on the importance of information to lamb supply chain, on the challenges exacerbated by information asymmetry and on some initiatives to mitigate the problem. Meat sheep industry still suffers from a lack of organization and communication between segments. Breeders who are aware about the need of adopting a business view are seeking for assistance and information, but many breeders are not. This situation is related to the difficulties of information diffusion, due to the scarcity of extension agents and professionals in sheep breeding. Access to information does not constitute an entry barrier for initiating the activity, but the lack of technical knowledge can be an obstacle to its viability. There is need to improve...

Viability in the production of a drug extracted from Ananas comosus by a flat membrane system BABT
Lopes,Francisco Luiz Gumes; Sbruzzi,Dalva; Barros,Kleber Vanio Gomes; Ferreira,Juliana Ferrari; Santana,José Carlos Curvelo; Souza,Roberto Rodrigues de; Tambourgi,Elias Basile.
The aim of this work was to study the production of e bromelain from the Ananas comosus L. Merril, by determining the process conditions using flat membranes. The production system modeling generated a hyperbolical curve and the optimization by response surfaces showed an influence of the transmembrane pressure higher than the pH influence. The cost of the production of bromelain from A. comosus was estimated 9 to 13 times lower than Sigma's retail sales price and 6.5 to 8.5 times lower than when this enzyme was obtained through a liquid-liquid extraction, which showed the economical feasibility of the process.
