Im Salatkopf können die Blattränder Nekrosen (sog. Innenbrand) aufweisen. Dies steht in Zusammenhang mit einem unzureichenden Calcium Transport in die Blätter, da Ca als essentieller Baustein biologischer Membranen benötigt wird und Pektinsäure der Mittellamelle der Zelle zu Ca-Pektinat absättigt. Innenbrand kann bis zu Totalausfällen, einhergehend mit hohen Einnahmeverlusten führen.
