Growth regulator AIB in rooting cuttings of Sapium glandulatum (Vell.) Pax PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Mori da Cunha, Ana Catarina Monteiro Carvalho; Wendling, Ivar; Souza Júnior, Levi.
The present work aimed to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of indolbutiric acid (0, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg L-1) in the rooting of cuttings and vigor of the produced seedlings of Sapium glandulatum. The results obtained with relationship to the rooting indicated the best results for the dose of 6000 mg L-1 of AIB, with average of 52%, demonstrating this to be the most suitable concentration for the production of seedlings of this species. It was concluded that rooting cuttings technique of Sapium glandulatum is technically viable and could be used in the production of seedlings, thus overcoming problems of shortage of seeds and low germination rate. Also, it could be an alternative for production of seedlings all the year.

Potential of the seedling community of a forest fragment for tropical forest restoration Scientia Agricola
Viani,Ricardo Augusto Gorne; Rodrigues,Ricardo Ribeiro.
Forest restoration projects are usually planted with a reduced number of species as compared to standing forests, largely due to the low availability of native species in seedling nurseries. In the present study, the potential of the native seedling community as a source of seedlings for forest restoration is analyzed. To do so, the seedling community from a forest fragment located in the southeast of Brazil was evaluated. Individuals (tree and shrub species) up to 30 cm height were measured and identified in 20 4 × 4 m plots. Altogether, 6,136 individuals (17 individuals m-2) belonging to 119 species were sampled. The seedling community showed a spatial heterogeneity with respect to the density of individuals and composition of species, and also a spatial...

Do polyembryonic seeds of Carapa surinamensis (Meliaceae) have advantages for seedling development? Acta Amazonica
FERREIRA,Débora Najara de SOUZA; CAMARGO,José Luís Campana; FERRAZ,Isolde Dorothea Kossmann.
ABSTRACT Polyembryony is the differentiation and development of multiple embryos in a single seed. This characteristic can provide advantages, as more than one embryo is produced with the same amount of resources, and the probability of establishment of at least one seedling increases. However, sibling seedlings may also increase competition, affecting development and survival. In the present study, the possible advantages and disadvantages of polyembryony were analyzed in the initial establishment of seedlings of Carapa surinamensis (Meliaceae), a tree species that produces monoembryonic or polyembryonic seeds. In this regard, the development of single seedlings was compared with a pair of seedlings emerging from polyembryonic seeds. We compared the...
