Chemical attributes of traditional agriculture and Caatinga managed at different depths in an Inceptisol AGRIAMBI
Sousa Neto,Osvaldo N. de; Dias,Nildo da S.; Lira,Raniere B. de; Silva,Eulene F. da; Ferreira,Ana L. L.; Freitas,Jair J. R. de.
ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate changes in the chemical attributes of an Inceptisol in two areas of sustainable management of the Caatinga Biome and a conventional tillage, compared with the native forest. The areas were managed in the following way: in areas under sustainable management, the Caatinga was thinned in a savanna system (1), and in the other area, the Caatinga was thinned in strips (2); the area under conventional tillage was burned, plowed and harrowed (3), and the native forest (4). The following chemical attributes were analyzed: pH, electrical conductivity, Ca2+, Mg2+, H + Al, P, Na+, K+ and soil organic matter (SOM), calculating CEC and base saturation. The treatments were evaluated using multivariate analysis, at...

Lima,Geovani S. de; Nobre,Reginaldo G.; Gheyi,Hans R.; Soares,Lauriane A. dos A.; Azevedo,Carlos A. V. de; Lima,Vera L. A. de.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the water relations, cell damage percentage and growth of the castor bean cv. ‘BRS Energia’ as a function of salinity and cationic nature of the water used in irrigation. The experiment was conducted in drainage lysimeters under greenhouse conditions in eutrophic Grey Argisol of sandy loam texture. Six combinations of water salinity and cations were studied (S1 - Control; S2 - Na+, S3 - Ca2+, S4 - Na+ + Ca2+; S5 - K+ and S6 - Na+ + Ca2+ + Mg2+), in a randomized block design with four replicates. In the control (S1), plants were irrigated with 0.6 dS m-1 water, whereas the other treatments received 4.5 dS m-1 water, obtained by adding different salts, all in the chloride form. Higher relative water content in the leaf...

Influence of land use/occupation on water quality in the Trussu river valley, Ceará, Brazil Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Neto,José Ribeiro de Araújo; Andrade,Eunice Maia de; Palácio,Helba Araújo de Queiroz; Sales,Maria Monaliza de; Maia,Anthony Rafael Soares.
ABSTRACT The growing pressure on water resources has reduced its availability as regards quality. Data was investigated for two different periods, with the aim of evaluating the influence of the use and occupation of space on the temporal dynamics of the quality of surface and groundwater in the perennialised valley of the Trussu River in the State of Ceará, Brazil. The first period was from September 2002 to February 2004 and the second from April 2013 to April 2014. Twenty-two water samples were taken from nine sampling stations, five on the surface and four underground. The same stations were considered, monitoring 12 attributes of water quality for a total of 2,376 analyses. Temporal dynamics were characterised employing a technique of multivariate...

Changes in attributes of soils subjected to fallow in desertification hotspot Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Ferreira,Mirele Paula da Silva; Artur,Adriana Guirado; Queiroz,Hermano Melo; Romero,Ricardo Espíndola; Costa,Mirian Cristina Gomes.
ABSTRACT Soils in semi-arid regions have been degraded by overgrazing, which reduces the production capacity and, in certain situations, leads to desertification. An alternative to recover degraded areas is the fallow period, which works through the resilience of the soil itself, increasing the supply of organic matter and improving soil physical properties. Thus, the objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that 14-year grazing exclusion improves soil physical and chemical attributes in degraded areas under desertification. The study was conducted in Irauçuba, Ceará State, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme corresponding to four areas and two managements (overgrazing and fallow), with four...

Dormancy overcoming and germination test in Piptadenia stipulacea (Benth.) Ducke seeds Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Benedito,Clarisse Pereira; Ribeiro,Maria Clarete Cardoso; Paiva,Emanoela Pereira de; Medeiros,Hohana Lissa de Sousa.
ABSTRACT Piptadenia stipulacea (Benth.) Ducke presents slow and uneven germination due to integumentary dormancy. In addition, there are no standardized indications as to the temperature and substrate for conducting the germination test in the laboratory. Thus, the objective was to evaluate methods of dormancy overcoming, temperatures and substrates in the germination and vigor of P. stipulacea seeds. For this, two experiments were installed, the first one in a completely randomized design, with 4 replicates of 25 seeds and treatments to overcome dormancy were: immersion in water at 100 °C for 1; 2; 3; 4; 5 and 6 min; immersion in concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4 - 98% P.A) for 1; 4; 7; 10 and 13 min; scarification on sandpaper no 80; in the region...

Complementary bee pollination maximizes yield and fruit quality in two species of self-pollinating pitaya Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Muniz,João Paulo de Oliveira; Bomfim,Isac Gabriel Abrahão; Corrêa,Márcio Cleber de Medeiros; Freitas,Breno Magalhães.
ABSTRACT Large-scale commercial production of pitaya is recent and there is little information on pollination and fruiting in this crop. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to investigate if the Africanized honeybee (Apis mellifera), frequent visitor of pitaya flowers (Hylocereus undatus and H. polyrhizus), plays any relevant role in the pollination of these cacti species, both in terms of fruit quantity and fruit quality. The study consisted of four treatments: natural pollination; restricted pollination; nocturnal pollination and pollination by A. mellifera, and all fruits were harvested and analyzed at 30 days after setting. Each treatment was evaluated in the number of fruits produced, total weight of the fruit; skin weight; pulp weight;...
